Job Title: Customer Support Engineer

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent | Onsite

Position Overview

We are seeking a Customer Support Engineer with a Chemical Engineering background to provide technical support and process expertise for industrial processing systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working directly with customers, solving process-related challenges, optimizing plant performance, and supporting equipment installations. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering and operations teams while traveling to customer facilities to ensure reliable system performance and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical support to industrial customers by diagnosing operational issues and implementing practical process improvements.
  • Assist customers with startup, commissioning, and ongoing operation of industrial process systems.
  • Analyze process performance data to identify trends, optimize system efficiency, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to resolve technical issues and improve system performance.
  • Develop operating procedures, technical documentation, and training materials for plant personnel.
  • Conduct on-site operator training and provide technical guidance during customer visits.
  • Support preventive maintenance initiatives and troubleshoot equipment including pumps, heat exchangers, filtration systems, and distillation equipment.
  • Coordinate replacement parts, inventory management, and service activities to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Build strong customer relationships by providing timely technical assistance and maintaining consistent communication.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to support existing customers and identify opportunities for additional solutions.
  • Represent the company at customer meetings, industry conferences, and trade shows.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and ensure compliance with company and customer safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 1–5 years of experience in process engineering within industrial manufacturing or processing environments.
  • Experience supporting industries such as ethanol production, chemical processing, distillation, biofuels, or similar process industries.
  • Knowledge of heat and material balance principles.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, filtration systems, and distillation columns.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and process optimization skills.
  • Customer-facing, field service, or technical support experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to plant personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for process analysis and reporting.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ethanol production or membrane-based process technologies.
  • Exposure to plant commissioning, startup, or field engineering activities.
  • Experience creating technical documentation and delivering operator training.
  • Familiarity with industrial process data analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
