What does a customer service manager do?

As a customer service manager, your job is to train the rest of the customer service staff and help develop their skills. You may help them learn how to greet customers, how to assist customers with problems, and how to remain professional when dealing with demanding customers. As a manager, your job also includes helping meet customer satisfaction targets, improving customer loyalty, and supporting the actions of the sales departments. Customer service managers often make recommendations for improving performance and work with the human resources department to hire employees and make decisions on disciplinary matters. You also provide direct customer service during staffing shortages or times of unusually high call volume.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a customer service manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Customer Service Manager, you need strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and experience in customer service, often backed by a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Familiarity with CRM software (such as Salesforce or Zendesk), data analysis tools, and customer feedback systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, and team motivation skills help someone excel in this role. These competencies are crucial for ensuring high customer satisfaction, efficient team operations, and continuous service improvement.

What are some common challenges faced by customer service managers and how can they be addressed?

Customer Service Managers often face challenges such as handling high-stress situations, managing team performance, and balancing customer satisfaction with company policies. To address these issues, effective managers implement regular training sessions, set clear expectations, and foster open communication within their teams. They also use data-driven approaches to monitor service quality and identify areas for improvement, while supporting staff through coaching and recognition programs. Building a positive team culture and actively seeking feedback from both customers and employees can help managers overcome these challenges and drive continuous improvement.

Job description

We are looking for individuals who want to join our team at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Apply now!

Job Opportunity: Customer Service Personnel (Alternate Program Manager)

Location: Fort Bragg, North Carolina

Start Date: Immediate

Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site

Make a Difference

The Alternate Program Manager is our on-site lead at the Fort Bragg ID card office โ€” the person who runs the floor day to day, works handโ€‘inโ€‘glove with the offโ€‘site Program Manager, and steps into any Site Security Manager (SSM) or Verifying Official (VO) seat when coverage calls for it. This is a leadership role for someone who wants to run the operation and motivate the team, not just work in it.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Run the floor and make realโ€‘time decisions during operating hours; keep each station manned to standard.
  • Back up the SSM and VO roles โ€” certified and crossโ€‘trained to fill any seat, holding coverage without overtime.
  • Support the Program Manager on reporting, quality control, and onโ€‘site coordination.
  • Manage schedules, leave, and coโ€‘work coverage so the operation holds through planned and unplanned absences.
  • Reinforce card stock accountability and DEERS/RAPIDS discipline alongside the SSMs.
Who You Are
  • A handsโ€‘on leader who has run or supervised a credentialing or customerโ€‘service operation.
  • Willing to certify and crossโ€‘train across SSM and VO duties โ€” you lead by doing.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of Common Access Card (CAC) and USID card functions.
  • Able to obtain RAPIDS Verifying Official and Site Security Manager certifications.
  • Able to obtain a CAC.
  • Favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) by your start date โ€” we will help you through the process.
  • Fluent in English.
Why Youโ€™ll Love It Here

Comprehensive benefits โ€” Health coverage, paid time off, 11 paid Federal holidays, and a retirement plan with a company match.

A real leadership seat โ€” Room to grow toward the Program Manager role with handsโ€‘on operational experience.

Predictable schedule โ€” Onโ€‘post work with consistent hours; the office does not run nights or weekends.

Ready to Join Us?

Apply today โ€” if you want to lead an operation that people count on every working day, we want to hear from you.
