Part-Time Customer Service Desk Associate

Job Summary:

The Customer Service Desk Associate reports to the Front End Manager and provides excellent customer service by interacting with every customer in a welcoming, courteous, friendly manner. The Associate is responsible for processing customers' purchases quickly and accurately, keeping the Customer Service Desk clean and organized, providing various specialty services for our customers, and answering and redirecting phone calls.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by giving customers full attention during any interaction
  • Greet customers in a friendly manner
  • Provide customers with a fast and accurate transaction
  • Utilize basic math skills to provide customers with accurate change
  • Memorize evolving product codes/PLUs
  • Responsible for processing cash, check and electronic transactions accurately
  • Bag customers' groceries, keeping in mind the weight of each bag and separating unlike items
  • Confirm proper identification for any purchase of alcohol
  • Assist customers in locating store items
  • Handle postage requests, including weighing and completing postage on packages and letters
  • Sell and cash out Ohio Lottery tickets, being comfortable troubleshooting issues that arise
  • Closing Customer Service Desk Associate pulls Ohio Lottery sales reports and inputs sales and cash into register
  • Make copies and complete faxes for customers
  • Build and collect cashier drawers (tills), and secure all returned tills in the safe
  • Enter basic sales data into Excel at the end of the day and email the sales spreadsheet to the designated recipients
  • Perform paid outs, charges, and account payments
  • Troubleshoot register issues; may be required to call in service requests for malfunctioning equipment to service providers
  • Place orders to replenish propane tanks, lawn tags, and ice as needed
  • Stock supplies, such as coffee supplies, bags, receipt paper, etc.
  • Monitor Cashiers and Carry Outs, providing direction and guidance as needed
  • May be required to gather carts and baskets in absence of Carry Out
  • Answer incoming phone calls with the appropriate greeting and transfer when necessary
  • Perform light cleaning/maintenance duties as assigned, including but not limited to: sweeping and mopping the Customer Service Desk area, wiping counters and machines, dumping trash, maintaining coffee grinder, cleaning coffee pots, and making coffee for sale
  • Complete daily postage paperwork and write check to Post Master

Schedule:

Ideal candidates are available to work both morning (opening) and afternoon/closing shifts. This position will typically offer 20-28 hours per week.

Education & Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma/GED, preferred
  • Cashier experience required
  • Postage and Lottery experience, preferred
  • Previous customer service experience, preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, and reaching
  • Must be able to frequently lift 10-30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
