About The Opportunity
The ORBIShield Custom Packaging Design Engineer Co-Op at ORBIS Corporation will support the Custom Design/Engineering Team by assisting with the creation of packaging designs and prototypes based on customer specifications. This hands-on role offers students the opportunity to learn about materials and manufacturing processes, followed by in-depth training in design. By the end of the co-op, students will be proficient in SolidWorks, capable of creating and interpreting final prints, and equipped to manage a project from concept through execution. This position will run from June 2027 to December 2027.
Areas of Learning/Responsibilities
โ€ข Lead and manage assigned project/projects
โ€ข Provide design samples to meet the needs and wants of our customers and sales team on a timely basis
โ€ข Provide cost effective and manufacturable designs from concept to production
โ€ข Provide technical skill, knowledge and judgment to ensure designs meets our customer's specific needs
โ€ข Ensure the quality of design prior to manufacturing by fabricating a prototype for customer approval
โ€ข Suggest ways to address issues discovered during assembly and overall manufacturing
โ€ข Demonstrate commitment to safety and performs job duties in accordance with company safety policies and procedures
โ€ข Seeks assistance or guidance from design team members or manager when necessary
Qualifications
โ€ข Junior or Senior pursuing a Technical or Bachelor's degree in Plastic Engineering Technology, Packaging Engineering or other related degree
โ€ข Knowledge of plastic processing, mechanical engineering, and packaging engineering
โ€ข Ability to interpret blueprints
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to use a computer and Design software programs (AutoCAD/Solidworks)
โ€ข Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
โ€ข Knowledge of automotive/vehicle products
โ€ข Ability to work both independently and in a team setting in a fast paced, high-volume environment
โ€ข Ability to travel to Manufacturing plants
โ€ข Accuracy and attention to detail
Additional Information Regarding this Role
โ€ข The incumbent who fills this role will be required to report onsite to the Troy, MI ORBIS Corporation location.
โ€ข This is a 6-month continuous co-op position which requires the student to be currently enrolled in post-secondary education at the time of employment.
โ€ข We are unable to sponsor individuals for work authorization at this time for intern and co-op positions.
