Job description

Description
This is a 12-month, full-time Clinical Faculty position in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program for the School of Nursing in the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences for the start of the 2026-2027 academic year. This faculty member will be responsible for teaching didactic and clinical courses within the FNP curriculum; participating in curriculum development, review, and evaluation; and mentoring and advising graduate nursing students. This faculty member will contribute to the ongoing assessment processes necessary to maintain compliance with CCNE accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Candidates must have earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing, or a related doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
  • Candidates with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) will be considered based on exceptional clinical experience, demonstrated expertise in advanced practice nursing, and a strong commitment to nursing education.
  • Must be a nationally certified and state-licensed Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC or FNP-C), with current or eligible licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical practice experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner in a primary care or related setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively mentor and advise a diverse student population.
  • Prior didactic teaching experience in a graduate nursing program is preferred; experience teaching in a Family Nurse Practitioner or other advanced practice nursing program is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid instructional delivery methods, including the use of learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), video conferencing, and other educational technologies.
  • Experience with or understanding of simulation-based learning and curriculum development for experiential learning environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to learner-centered education, evidence-based teaching practices, and innovative approaches to nursing education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience teaching at the graduate level is preferred. Experience with online and hybrid education delivery, including the use of learning management systems and virtual instructional tools, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with instructional design, student assessment, and use of technology in nursing education is highly desirable.
  • Formal education or training in teaching, instructional technology, curriculum development, or clinical precepting (such as through a nurse educator certificate or completion of faculty development workshops) is a plus.
