Position:ย Assistantย Campย Director ย ย Salary: $16.00
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is currently hiring an Assistant Camp Director. Working at the Y, you will create exciting and impactful experiences for campers, build connections with your peers and Y professionals, expand your leadership skills, and have fun! This is a seasonal position for the months of June through August.
Some of the exciting things you will do as an Assistant Camp Director:

  • Ensure all campers have a fun, enriching, and safe experience
  • Assist with planning and implement the Y camp program in accordance with the goals and policies of the Y and the camp curriculum
  • Assist in providing leadership to camp counselors, including training and daily supervision
  • Mentor camp staff
  • Ensure daily schedule of activities is carried out for all groups of campers
  • Assist in conducting weekly team meetings and provide performance feedback on a daily basis
  • Ensure that all counselors have daily schedule and the appropriate supplies and resources to deliver a quality program
  • Be responsible for camper safety and security
  • Ensure adherence to the policies of the Y
  • Motivate, energize and encourage counselors to deliver outstanding programming and customer service daily
  • Participate in staff trainings and meetings as required

What you need to be an Assistant Camp Director:

  • Be able to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season
  • High school graduate
  • 21 years of age
  • Willing to participate in and obtain CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
  • Meet the county/state licensing requirements
  • At least two summers of experience in day camp, recreation, physical education, teaching, or working with school age children
  • Prior experience assisting supervising staff
  • Work well with and in groups
  • Able to effectively communicate with children and parents
  • Understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to Y character development

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
  • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
  • Must have visual acuity to observe all children
