About This Role

General Description: The Assistant Teacher is responsible for helping and supporting the lead teacher in all aspects of the safety, care and education of the children enrolled in the class. This position may be full to part-time and scheduled between 7am-5pm.

Position reports to: School Directors


What You'll Do

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of each child enrolled in the class at all times while in your care.
  • Assist and support lead teacher in planning and implementation of age and developmentally appropriate classroom practices that will include the areas of physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of young children using the school curriculum.
  • Assist and support lead teacher in observation and evaluation of children’s development and progress.
  • Encourage children’s development in the areas of building self-confidence, problem solving, and taking responsibility for their actions.
  • Serve as a role model for the children in the areas of attitude, speech and actions on a daily basis and treat each child with dignity and respect for his/her cultural background.
  • Nurture positive relationships with families and establish continual communication.
  • Accept and maintain responsibility on a daily basis for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor and cleanliness of the learning environment.

Requirements

Preferred Attributes:

  • High school diploma and minimum of two years practical experience preferred.
  • Must meet Virginia licensure requirements and child care certification as necessary.
  • Pragmatic experience in a school setting.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to perform physical labor as needed for the position.
  • Willing to become familiar with licensing standards, rules and regulations in regards to the health and safety of students.
