Job description

Title: Crystallization Research Scientist

Location: Greater Boston Area, MA (On-site)

Employment Type: Contract — 12+ months

About the Role

Support laboratory-scale drug substance process development, with a focus on developing fit-for-purpose API crystallization and particle-forming processes that support commercially viable manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and demonstrate small-molecule API crystallization processes at laboratory/bench scale.
  • Develop and optimize API isolation and drying operations.
  • Support particle engineering activities, including size reduction and related particle-forming operations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams spanning organic, physical, and analytical chemistry, project teams, and manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in a life science discipline, preferably Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, with 2–5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Experience in API process development and scale-up, particularly small-molecule crystallization and particle engineering.
  • Working knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering fundamentals, including kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, Raman, FBRM, DSC, TGA, and XRPD, as well as laboratory automation tools.
  • Experience with statistical design of experiments and QbD concepts, plus familiarity with process/physical-property modeling tools such as Aspen, Dynochem, or MATLAB; strong communication and collaboration skills.

Compensation:

  • $50–$60/hr.
  • Final compensation within the posted range will depend on qualifications, experience, and interview results.
