Job description

MicroHealth is seeking an experienced Senior SQL Application Developer with strong expertise in SQL, database administration, Linux environments, database migration, and reporting solutions. This role provides advanced technical support for the program, serving as the principal technical resource responsible for enterprise database development, database administration, reporting modernization, production support, ETL development, and SQL Server operational maintenance supporting mission-critical healthcare reporting systems.
The incumbent will develop, administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases while developing SQL solutions against IBM DB2 healthcare data sources supporting NPIRS and HSP reporting. This position requires expertise in both Windows and Linux database environments, with responsibilities including SQL programming, SQL Server Agent automation, Database Mail, SSRS report development, Crystal Reports modernization, SSIS package development, production database support, infrastructure monitoring, server maintenance, and enterprise reporting solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration & Operations
  • Administer Microsoft SQL Server databases in both Windows and Linux environments supporting NPIRS production and development systems
  • Monitor SQL Server health, performance, storage utilization, and database availability across multiple platforms
  • Perform routine server monitoring and daily operational health checks
  • Execute scheduled SQL Server maintenance activities, including weekly server patching and maintenance windows

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and reusable database components
  • Develop and optimize advanced SQL solutions utilizing Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 healthcare data sources
  • Develop cross-platform SQL solutions integrating SQL Server reporting environments with DB2 databases
  • Translate complex healthcare reporting requirements and legacy report logic into validated SQL business rules, including exception handling, reconciliation, and data-quality controls
  • Optimize SQL code for performance and scalability across multiple database platforms
  • Create validation scripts and resolve database-related defects

Reporting & Modernization
  • Design, develop, modify, validate, and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports
  • Lead modernization efforts by converting SAP Crystal Reports to SSRS while maintaining functionality
  • Translate legacy Crystal Reports business logic into validated SSRS solutions while preserving business rules and report functionality

ETL & Data Integration

  • Support data integration initiatives across multiple systems and platforms
  • Perform database migrations and conversions between platforms with minimal downtime
  • Migrate databases and reports between different environments

  • Ensure data integrity throughout migration processes
Production Support & Automation
  • Provide production support for NPIRS operational systems
  • Develop, schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL Server Agent jobs, automated database processes, alerts, Database Mail notifications, and scheduled operational workflows
  • Monitor production database jobs, reporting services, SQL Server Agent jobs, and automated workflows
  • Perform proactive morning operational monitoring and respond to infrastructure incidents
  • Support production deployments, server patching, and operational documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement technical solutions

Required QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with SQL database development and administration
  • Advanced SQL programming skills with demonstrated experience optimizing complex queries
  • Strong Linux administration experience, including shell scripting and system management
  • Proven experience migrating databases and reports between different platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with Linux environments hosting database systems
  • Proven track record of successful database migration projects
  • Strong experience with both Crystal Reports and SSRS development

Salary: $125,000 - $140,000 
Level of Responsibility:
The incumbent functions as a Senior Hybrid SQL Developer/SQL Database Administrator, independently performing advanced database administration, SQL development, enterprise reporting, ETL development, production support, infrastructure monitoring, and reporting modernization. The incumbent provides technical leadership in translating healthcare reporting requirements into validated SQL business rules supporting mission-critical NPIRS reporting systems.
This position directly supports the availability, reliability, accuracy, and performance of NPIRS reporting systems. The work ensures secure database operations, successful report modernization, reliable healthcare reporting, and uninterrupted production support for critical federal healthcare programs.
