Muskegon Community College
Muskegon Community College is a center for lifelong learning that helps people attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. MCC is an associate degree-granting institution of higher education and an applied technology leader for high-tech, hands-on training.
With nearly a 100-year history of academic excellence, MCC is a public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. With robust student success support, free tutoring, 20 athletic teams, events, clubs, and activities, MCC has an annual, full-time equated student enrollment of approximately 2,300 and an unduplicated headcount of 5,100.
Most recently, Muskegon Community College outranked all other colleges in Michigan for the rate of students who received federal financial aid and then transferred to continue their education at a four-year institution. The college's transfer-out rate was the highest in Michigan, 7 percentage points above the state average, and outpaced the average transfer rate across the nation.
The College has an annual operating budget (general fund) of $51 million and employs about 210 regular full and part-time staff and many adjunct faculty and student assistants. The College also offers 52 Associate degree programs and 24 certificate programs.
The main campus is located on a 111-acre campus in Muskegon which includes the Hendrik Meijer Library & Information Technology Center, Bartels-Rode Gymnasium, Frauenthal Foundation Fine Arts Center (including the Overbrook Theater and Art Gallery), Stevenson Center, the Science Center, the Health and Wellness Center, Art & Music Building, and MCC Golf Course.
Muskegon Community College also operates the Sturrus Technology Center and Fab Lab in downtown Muskegon andextension centers in Ottawa and Newaygo Counties.
Living in Muskegon CountyMuskegon County residents enjoy 26 miles of sugar-sand beaches along Lake Michigan's shoreline, as well as one of America's only luge tracks at the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park and the regionally popular Michigan's Adventure Amusement & Water Park. An outdoor recreation hub with three state parks and swimming, fishing and boating on its many lakes and rivers, the Muskegon area offers dynamic downtown and beachfront restaurant and entertainment venues. The Muskegon Farmer's Market is the second largest in Michigan. Cruise ships dock in Muskegon, while a high-speed ferry connects the city to Milwaukee. Notable local museums range from rare art collections to an actual World War II submarine and a U.S. Navy ship used during D-Day.

General Description:
The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Instructor is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating classroom, lab, and clinical instruction for CNA candidates in accordance with Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and applicable state regulations. The instructor will facilitate learning that enables students to successfully complete the Michigan CNA training program and achieve certification.
This course offering is a non-credit program. Long term-care requires all candidates be willing to receive a TB screening.
Required Skills
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred and must hold an active, unrestricted license as a professional Registered Nurse from the State of Michigan.
  1. Qualified applicants must have two (2) years of clinical nursing experience and at least one (1) year of long-term care nursing experience in Michigan.
  1. Completion of an accredited Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training program, adult learning course, or documented experience supervising nursing assistants.
  1. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.
  1. Previous experience in teaching, training, or mentoring is preferred; Michigan Train-the-Trainer certification required.
  1. Active participation in hands-on skills demonstrations and clinical supervision is an essential component of the role.
  1. The following physical capabilities are to be expected:
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours).
    • Capability to bend, lift, push, pull, and assist with patient-mobility simulations.
    • Sufficient manual dexterity to demonstrate clinical procedures and operate training equipment.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with students, colleagues, and healthcare personnel.
    • Occasional lifting or assistance of individuals or training mannequins up to 50 pounds, following proper body-mechanics techniques.
  1. Work occurs in classroom and skills-lab settings, with periodic clinical rotations in long-term care or affiliated healthcare facilities.
  1. Potential exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, and standard healthcare equipment during instructional activities.

Essential Function:
  1. Deliver instruction aligned with the Michigan Nurse Aide curriculum standards.
  2. Supervise and instruct students during clinical and laboratory skills sessions.
  3. Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies to support diverse learning styles.
  4. Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and competency checklists.
  5. Conduct ongoing student evaluations (written exams, skills demonstrations, clinical performance).
  6. Provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
  7. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and competencies.
  8. Ensure training content complies with Michigan state requirements and best practices.
  9. Maintain current knowledge of CNA certification standards and regulatory updates.
  10. Advise and mentor students regarding academic and clinical performance.
  11. Maintain professional development through continuing education.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
