Purpose

The Wellness Specialist works collaboratively with the Division Student Wellness Teams to provide direct and consultative services for students, faculty and families around behavioral, mental and emotional wellness. In this role, the Specialist will engage in direct student services around executive functioning, short term counseling, behavioral intervention, and student crisis response.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Facilitates small group instruction to enhance executive functioning.
  • Provides individual and group counseling, as requested by the Student Wellness Team
  • Provides faculty and administrator consultation services to support student wellness and success
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with parents to support student growth and development through parent programming and parent consultation
  • Works collaboratively with outside providers to ensure continuity of support services
  • Works collaboratively with Division teams to provide small group instruction on topics associated with social emotional learning
  • Supports responses to student crises under the supervision of the Executive Director
  • Actively participates in Division Student Wellness Teams
  • Facilitates parent programming on topics of interest and identified areas
  • Maintains confidential and accurate records of support services provided
  • Steps in as a Division Counselor, at the request of the Executive Director
  • Facilitates functional behavioral assessments, at the request of the Student Wellness Teams or Education Support Services
  • Aids in emotional wellness prevention initiatives to better serve all students
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee

Job Qualifications 

Education

Master’s degree in Counseling or related field

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years work experience in a school setting, independent school experience a plus

Experience with student crisis response and management (i.e. suicide assessment, risk assessment, grief/loss)

Licenses and Certifications

Certification in School Counseling (or equivalent certification)
