Description of Duties:

Responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in probing for water lines and meters for repair, maintenance and installation. Inspects work areas to determine the type of work required as well as the materials and equipment to be used on installations and layouts. Provides guidance and direction for the crew regarding projects such as shoveling and probing of areas to maintain or repair. Operates equipment such as a backhoe and ditch diggers, and crew members in proper use and maintenance of such. Reviews assigned job schedules for the crew, and estimate man-hours needed for completion of job assignments. Works with the Field Supervisor to monitor and enforce Safety policies. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs; Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures. Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

A self-starting individual who possesses High School diploma or GED and at least one year prior experience as a Crew Helper or a related position. Must be able to read, write, and follow written instructions. Must possess a current Texas Driver License and must be insurable by the Corporationโ€™s insurance underwriter. Must obtain, within 12 months of hire, a Class C Water Distribution License through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Must also become current with the following schools: Utility Safety, Unit I Basic Water, Unit 5 Distribution, Shoring School, Waste Water I & II, and Customer Service Inspection immediately upon hire with the company, but no later than within 6 months of hire. Must have good communications skills, in order to effectively present information to employees and management of the Corporation. Must be fluent in English (written and verbal). Basic mathematics skills are required (addition and subtraction of two digit numbers / multiplication and division by tens and hundreds) when calculating for monetary purposes or weight measurement. Must possess good judgment as well as exercise discretion in the performance of daily duties. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the workweek and must be on call 24 hours a day.

Position requires the ability to work submerged in water and mud as needed in order to repair or install pipe and install or find water meters. Position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance. Must have the ability to frequently life and/or move items up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level associated with this position is generally loud.

Preferences:

Class A CDL is highly preferred. Prior experience working with a water supply corporation or public utility is preferred. Current Class C Water Distribution License and a Customer Service Inspection license through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is preferred upon hire.

Company Description

The North Alamo Water Supply Corporation is a legally chartered corporation operating under the laws of the State of Texas for the purpose of furnishing a potable water and wastewater utility service for rural residents of eastern Hidalgo County, Willacy County, and northwestern Cameron County as described in Certificates of Convenience and Necessity Nos. 10553 and 20645 (CCN). The Corporationโ€™s CCN boundary encompasses 973 square miles and either surrounds or is adjacent to 16 cities and/or communities that operate public water systems.
The system presently serves more than 56,000 meter connections, which include households, numerous businesses, 24 schools, and six other Public Water Systems, from six surface water treatment plants and one reverse osmosis treatment plant. The 44,900 meter connections represent an estimated population of nearly 180,000. The surface water treatment plants treat surface water conveyed by six irrigation districts. The original source of the raw water is the Rio Grande River. The reverse osmosis treatment plant treats brackish groundwater. Of these meter connections, approximately 2,000 are also served by the corporationโ€™s wastewater system.
The corporationโ€™s operating policies, rates, tariffs and regulations are formulated and implemented by a nine-member Board of Directors elected by the members of the Corporation.
