DIS-TRAN Steel, located in Pineville, LA, is looking for a Fitter I to join the team. 
 
Fitters will interpret blueprints to tack fit structures including tubular steel transmission poles, latticed transmission towers, substation deadend and support structures and other specialty structures. Fitters must be capable of fitting steel layouts according to specifications.  Individuals must be able to perform duties with speed and accuracy in order to produce a quality product and keep a steady flow of products. This position will frequently use calculating skills, by tape measure or other device. This position will use other moving machinery or equipment, including cranes, in order to manipulate steel structures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
  • Studies engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials, requirements, and task sequences.
  • Plans steel layout according to specifications.
  • Lays out full scale drawings of structures, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints within specified tolerances.
  • Moves parts safely into position; manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Measures and marks steel for manipulation.
  • Assembles fittings according to specifications by welding.
  • Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Positions, aligns, and welds parts to form complete structures, following blueprints and layout specifications, using machinery, welding torches, and hand tools.
  • Verifies conformance of steel to specifications by measuring tapes or other measuring devices.
  • Examines steel or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Cuts material using torches and other cutting equipment common to the welding trade.
 
REQUIREMENTS FOR FITTER I
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints required.
  • Ability to read a tape measure required.
  • Welding / fitting certification or prior fitting experience preferred.
  • Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery, such as cranes, preferred.
  • Must pass on site tack test.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required.
