Job Description:
At Regions, the Credit Risk Review Examiner continuously monitors and examines activities. This position assesses and reports the status and direction of credit risk within the assigned portfolios. The Examiner identifies risk direction drivers, evaluates origination quality, portfolio quality, and elements of credit risk management by review of various credit metrics, transaction testing, and periodic interaction with first and second line of defense business managers, staff, and other risk assessment functions. They identify issues that require management attention and will communicate and summarize review findings in applicable report format for risk rating accuracy, policy compliance, and prudent credit risk management practices.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and maintains an advanced knowledge of sound lending practices, lending regulations, and the bank's loan policy and underwriting guidelines
  • Reviews credit exposures to provide assurance of compliance with Regions' credit policies as well as safe and sound banking practices
  • Participates and/or takes a leadership role in credit risk review examinations, which may include horizontal reviews that cross lines of business and geographies with minimal guidance from management
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with line of business management, credit risk management, audit staff, and other departments
  • Analyzes trends in key quality and performance metrics, reviews transactions, and assesses processes associated with the origination and servicing of assigned loan portfolios
  • Leads the identification and monitoring of evolution of key risk direction drivers for assigned portfolios
  • Independently performs ad hoc analysis of often complex credit risk issues, frequently requiring aggregation of transaction data through use of spreadsheet or database software
  • Maintains specialized knowledge as required for assigned lines of business, which may include expertise required to assess periodic validation of credit scoring models, understanding portfolio valuation techniques, etc.
  • Proposes appropriate ratings and risk direction assessments and participates in developing findings and conclusions, presenting results to senior managers, and in completing written reports within departmental guidelines
  • Maintains information or work papers to support review process and findings
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of credit risk review procedures, sound lending practices, credit policies, and regulatory requirements
  • May serve as lead review analyst for assigned line(s) of business for continuous monitoring of credit risk conducted between examinations
  • Collaborates with senior management in maintaining relevant knowledge of evolving and changing regulations and policies
  • Collaborates with senior management in the development of team goals and objectives, ensuring consistent achievement
  • Offers advice and guidance to junior examiners, assisting in the development of necessary skills and the promotion of continuous improvement initiatives

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
This position is incentive eligible.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Twelve (12) years of credit-related experience, or eight (8) years of third line of defense credit risk assurance, regulatory, or credit approval/management experience
  • Experience writing risk management review reports

Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.
The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
