Director, Credit Risk PolicyDirector, Credit Risk Policy
Overview:
This role provides senior, independent Second Line of Defense oversight of credit risk across the Global portfolio. The Director is accountable for supporting the SVP Credit Risk to oversight credit risk governance, specifically on credit policy, standards and guidance, developing credit risk portfolio management information, key credit risk indicators, regulatory compliance, and oversight of first line credit risk management frameworks. The role supports and will represent Credit Risk function at regulator, committee, and senior stakeholder forums, ensuring alignment with global Credit Risk standards.
Role & Responsibilities:
Credit Risk Governance & Oversight
Provide independent Second Line oversight of credit risk across the global portfolio
Lead development and maintenance the second line of defense Credit Risk Policy, standards and guidelines, e.g., Underwriting standards, collateral standards, etc
Oversight of first line of defense adherence to risk appetite, policies, standards and guidelines
Support SVP on challenges to and approval of material policy exceptions
Risk Rating Framework, Methodology & Credit Risk Systems
Work with SVP, Credit Risk to ensure requirements in Credit Risk Policy and Standards are implemented within the Credit Risk Systems and tools
Portfolio & Risk Appetite Oversight
Provide oversight of portfolio performance, concentrations, and emerging risks
Coordinate the management and enhancement of second line management reporting, key risk indicators and portfolio oversight through CRMS/Power BI
Monitor portfolio metrics against approved risk appetite and tolerance levels
Perform periodic QA over Underwritings performed by 1LoD Customer Risk Management function
Ensure timely escalation of material risk deterioration and forward-looking risk concerns
Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement
As appropriate, lead Credit Risk engagement during regulatory reviews, examinations, and audits
Partner with senior stakeholders across Business, Finance, Compliance, and Risk
Leadership & Strategic Contribution
Provide leadership and direction within the Credit Risk function
Contribute to global and regional credit risk initiatives and framework enhancements
Support development of credit risk talent through mentoring and professional guidance
Decision Making Authority
Authority to review and challenge first line credit risk decisions, underwriting, procedures risk acceptance, open risk management
Recommend approval or escalation of policy exceptions and KRI risk appetite breaches
Recommendation on enhancements to credit risk policy, standards and guidelines.
Recommendation on enhancements to credit risk systems and management reporting
All About You:
Advanced credit risk management expertise across financial institutions and/or corporate portfolios, in particular the enhancement of credit risk policy, standards and guidance
Strong knowledge of credit risk management systems, management information, rating systems and control frameworks. Use of AI in credit risk management.
Good understanding of Expected Loss frameworks including PD, LGD, EAD and stress testing
Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills
Strong strategic and commercial mindset
Deep analytical and data-driven decision-making capability
Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks
Ability to balance growth and risk
Proven experience in [banking, payments, fintech, risk management]
Proven experience in [credit risk strategy, portfolio management, analytics]
Experience operating across global or regional markets
Experience engaging regulators and governance forums
Proven ability to influence in a matrix organization

Education & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required
Relevant certifications (CFA, FRM, etc.)

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in Canada, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive pay based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
