Credit Advisor

But attracting the right people is only half the battle. We have to ensure that every associate understands their actions affect the outcomes of the firm. Our position descriptions are not designed to list every aspect of a position but to serve as a general overview.

Summary of position:

A credit advisor should demonstrate commitment to delivering distinctive service. The position will be responsible for providing the credit analysis and underwriting for new and renewed credit requests. This position is also responsible for ongoing portfolio management and preparation of underwriting documentation. The credit advisor may become eligible to receive lending authority, as determined by the hiring manager.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide distinctive service to clients and prospects, in person and over the telephone. Respond to client inquiries and satisfactorily resolve client issues. Support firm-wide achievement of the three-ring standard (all phones answered by a live person within three rings).
  • Partner with financial advisors by giving front end guidance on new and renewed credit requests including desirability of the credit related to Pinnacle's credit appetite, structure, documentation, and monitoring.
  • Complete all underwriting functions such as financial spreading (if applicable), written analysis, global cash flow analysis, industry analysis, projections, collateral evaluation, and risk rating to provide vital decisioning information to the credit approving team.
  • Engage in prospect and client calls.
  • Exhibit willingness and ability to "weigh in" on the credit decision. If applicable, exercise sound decisioning judgment if approving within own lending authority.
  • Ensure timely completion of periodic credit reviews. Provide sufficient written analysis to support the credit exposure, assigned risk rating, and recommendations.
  • Perform ongoing, timely calculations and testing of financial covenants, borrowing bases and margin requirements as required; address and communicate any issues that warrant discussion such as defaults, variances from projections, over advances, potential risk rating changes (up or down).
  • Evaluate appropriate front end cost analysis on construction loans. Complete net operating income (NOI) analysis to ensure the requested loan amount supports the income producing property, as applicable.
  • Review the monthly KPI and portfolio reports available on the intranet each month, ensuring accuracy and discussing results with the appropriate senior credit officer.
  • Meet all the client's financial needs, both business and personal, and refer clients to other specialty areas such as trust, investments, insurance, treasury management, etc. as appropriate.
  • Assist other team members as needed to ensure delivery of distinctive service.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Description of experience, education, and training:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, finance, or business-related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in financial services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or related software.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the lending process.
  • Knowledge of federal banking regulations, compliance, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of technology and loan systems.

  • Effective analytical skills in order to analyze financial and procedural data.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks including the acceptance and timely completion of projects and assistance of teammates.
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Understanding of critical lending documentation, general business systems and internal controls.
  • Excellent client service skills. Tact and diplomacy in dealing with both clients and associates.
  • The physical activities of this job include but are not limited to the ability to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time, use of manual dexterity, verbal communication, visual acuity, repetitive motion, and the ability to hear. Often long periods of mental concentration are required. Other activities are the ability to bend, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, and grasp.
