Job description

The Creative Packaging Designer is responsible for developing innovative packaging, branding, and marketing materials that enhance the presentation of Dillard's exclusive and private brand products. This role combines creative design, brand storytelling, and strategic visual communication to create compelling customer experiences that strengthen brand identity and drive sales.


The Creative Packaging Designer partners with buyers, product development teams, designers, merchants, and Creative Packaging leadership to develop packaging concepts, hang tags, labels, boxes, signage, and other marketing collateral that align with Dillard's brand standards and merchandising objectives. This position requires exceptional design skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple creative projects in a fast-paced retail environment.


Essential Job Functions

  • Design innovative packaging solutions including product boxes, hang tags, labels, inserts, and other packaging components for Dillard's exclusive and private brands.
  • Develop compelling brand stories, product messaging, collection names, taglines, and packaging copy that communicate product features and benefits.
  • Create visually engaging graphics for in-store signage, point-of-sale materials, marketing collateral, and promotional campaigns.
  • Collaborate with buyers, product development teams, designers, and Creative Packaging leadership throughout the design process.
  • Develop and maintain consistent brand identities across multiple product categories.
  • Ensure all creative materials adhere to established brand standards, style guides, and visual identity requirements.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, to produce production-ready artwork.
  • Apply strong knowledge of typography, layout, color theory, and visual hierarchy to create effective design solutions.
  • Prepare print-ready files while ensuring accuracy in specifications, dielines, color matching, and production requirements.
  • Research consumer trends, packaging innovations, retail design trends, and competitive brands to inspire new creative concepts.
  • Present creative concepts and design solutions to internal stakeholders while incorporating feedback into final deliverables.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting production schedules and deadlines.
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to ensure packaging quality, consistency, and timely execution.
  • Maintain organized digital assets, project files, and brand resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or a related field required.
  • Previous experience in packaging design, branding, graphic design, or a related creative field preferred.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating packaging, branding, print, and marketing design projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Strong understanding of typography, branding, color theory, composition, and print production processes.
  • Experience developing creative concepts from initial ideation through final production.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to develop compelling marketing and packaging copy.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a creative team.
  • Knowledge of packaging production, printing processes, and vendor specifications preferred.


Physical Requirements

  • Regular attendance is required, including flexibility to work additional hours as business needs require.
  • Ability to remain seated and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate a computer, graphic design software, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to visually review design layouts, packaging proofs, typography, and color accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with associates, vendors, and business partners in person, virtually, and by telephone.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry presentation materials, packaging samples, or supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
