Job description

Position Title: Interior Designer

Salaried position with minimum availability from 7:30am – 5:00pm

Job Summary:

The Designer role is vital in ensuring the success of remodeling projects from pre-sale through construction. This position is responsible for creating a clear scope of work and creative design concept to secure project contracts as well as managing the client experience throughout the pre-sale, design and preconstruction phases. The scope of duties covers a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to selling the design/project, ensuring client has a clear understanding of the design concept and project budget, maintaining profitability of project throughout the design and preconstruction phases, effective hand-off to the construction team, communicating with clients, and maintaining quality standards.

The Designer will manage project costs from the initial consultation through the pre-construction phase; create a clear scope of work within a reasonable budget to obtain the client’s approval and secure a signed project contract. The Designer is responsible for managing a minimum of 4-7 active (presale through preconstruction phases) projects at a time. Additionally, the Designer supports the Project Directors during the construction phase by contributing to job site walk throughs, communicating with skilled craftsmen and clients and problem-solving design-related issues as they arise during the construction phase.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Business Development – Contribute to client consultation meetings and manage the paid proposal phase to convert presale opportunities to signed client contracts.

· Scope of Work – Establish a comprehensive presale scope of work and communicate details effectively to ensure development of accurate, detailed estimates. Edit scope of work as necessary during design phase; update and communicate associated costs to client, construction and management teams.

· Budget Management - Prepare and submit accurate finish-material budget estimates during the presale phase. Secure detailed estimate quotes during the design/selections phase. Communicate cost details to clients regularly throughout all phases of the project. Collaborate with Project Director and Production Manager during construction phase to ensure cost changes are captured accurately.

· Project Coordination - Organize, schedule, and coordinate projects, budgeting time effectively. Coordinate with internal team members and subcontractors to meet deadlines.

· Client Communication - Act as the main point of contact for clients from presale through preconstruction phase. Be available as a client resource during construction phase. Ensure clients are informed and have a solid understanding of all design-related costs and details. Effectively communicate the design and construction vision throughout all phases of the project, addressing any concerns or changes promptly and effectively.

· Team Communication & Management - Communicates regularly with design team, skilled craftsmen, project directors and subcontractors to maintain project clarity and team coordination.

· Leadership/Motivation/Recognition – Be leadership minded by recognizing team member contributions, expressing appreciation, sharing knowledge, offering feedback and exhibiting a general team-oriented mindset.

· Problem-Solving - Address challenges and unexpected issues that arise during projects, finding solutions to keep projects on track.

· Adherence to Company Procedures - Manage projects and in accordance with company standards and procedural guidelines. Ensures that clients are properly utilizing Buildertrend in the design phase

· Safety Oversight - Maintain and ensure adherence to safety standards and guidelines on job sites.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Design-related degree or five years of experience in a hands-on, client-facing design role.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Experience using design technology (Chief Architect and 2020/Design Live).

· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to make decisions under pressure.

· Ability to effectively communicate both positive and negative information to clients and team members.

· Clear verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to work with office and field team providing clear direction and support while maintaining a positive and engaging work atmosphere with a good sense of humor.

· Thorough understanding of construction products, scopes of work, plans, and specifications.

· Proficient in Microsoft applications including Outlook.

· Excellent organizational abilities to coordinate schedules, tasks, and resources efficiently.

· Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.

· Possess strong critical thinking skills to effectively address challenges and find solutions quickly. Adept at decision-making abilities, especially under pressure, and exhibit proficiency in multitasking.

· Project Performance - Accurately and clearly develop scope of work details and finish material estimates/quotes for all assigned projects. Ensure clients have a clear understanding of the design process. Properly communicate project vision to production team, minimizing setbacks and re-works. Demonstrate a sense of urgency to keep projects on schedule.

· Design Details - Guarantee products are properly selected to minimize reorders. Manage material resources, optimizing vendor and subcontractor resources.

· Client Satisfaction - Receive consistently high scores on client satisfaction surveys, demonstrating commitment to meeting client needs

· Communication Effectiveness - Team player with excellent oral and written communication skills and sustained collaboration across all KCBR departments to ensure success on each project. Effectively communicates with clients, management, and team members, solving problems constructively and proactively. Responsible for job documents with detailed notes to field team, detailed selection information in Buildertrend and daily logs as needed to document job related information effectively.

· Proactive Management – Proactively communicates and requests input/help from production team, project managers and construction team, displaying initiative and proactive problem-solving skills.

· Team Productivity - Acts as a true team member to ensure productivity and foster a collaborative work environment. Addresses communication gaps promptly and collaboratively with team members, while showing recognition and appreciation for those who uphold the company core values.

· Technology Proficiency – Consistent daily recording of job performance, team and client communication in Buildertrend. Competent use of design software such as Chief Architect and 2020/Design Live. Competent use of other required technology including Outlook email and other team communication tools and apps.
