Rocky Talkie launched in 2019 with its signature product, a backcountry radio made for climbers and skiers. Since then, Rocky Talkie has launched multiple best-in-class products and has grown quickly in the handheld radio industry. We are committed to making easy-to-use, durable, high-performance products for the backcountry and to supporting our customers. Rocky Talkie has a rapidly growing base of happy customers in North America and recently expanded to the EU. We design our products for use in extreme conditions, and our radios have been adopted by a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts and commercial applications. We have a small, passionate, and highly motivated team with a deep understanding of our customers and outdoor communications. We would love your help in bringing Rocky Talkie to a new generation of customers.

Our team is driven every day by the belief that better communication in the backcountry will save lives. As part of this mission, we donate $2 per radio sold to search-and-rescue teams across the country.

The Opportunity

This role is for a creative leader who has built and managed creative teams and production pipelines, and enjoys combining design, storytelling, and technical outdoor products to create clear, compelling creative work. You'll work closely with brand, marketing, and product teams to bring Rocky Talkie's story to life through thoughtful, high-quality creative output.

This role provides leadership across our creative execution, with a focus on three core areas: creative direction, visual storytelling, and creative production systems.

Rocky Talkie has a unique opportunity to build a creative identity that reflects both the craftsmanship of our products and the environments where they're used. Our customers rely on our radios in demanding conditions, and the creative work that represents our brand should reflect the same level of care, durability, and authenticity.

You'll help shape how Rocky Talkie shows up visually across every customer touchpoint-from product launches and marketing campaigns to educational content and partnerships.

As Rocky Talkie grows, we are expanding into new activities and professional use cases where reliability and trust are critical. The creative work that supports these efforts must balance compelling storytelling with clarity and credibility. Experience producing creative work that communicates both inspiration and technical trust is especially valuable in this role.

As a small team, every leadership role at Rocky Talkie is highly entrepreneurial and creative. This role requires combining strong creative instincts with hands-on execution and a player-coach mentality.

What You'll OwnTeam Leadership
  • Directly manage and develop a small internal creative team (designers, content creators), including goal-setting, performance feedback, and career development
  • Set clear priorities, workflows, and standards for how creative work gets produced and delivered
  • Provide thoughtful feedback that improves the craft and consistency of design, video, photography, and written content
  • Help identify when and where we should invest in additional internal or external creative support as the brand grows
Creative Direction
  • Lead the visual direction and creative execution for Rocky Talkie across marketing channels
  • Translate brand strategy into clear, cohesive creative work across campaigns, product launches, and ongoing marketing efforts
  • Ensure visual consistency across website, ads, email, packaging, social media, and retail materials
  • Develop and maintain creative standards, templates, and systems that allow the team to produce high-quality work efficiently
Visual Storytelling
  • Help shape how Rocky Talkie communicates through imagery, design, and video
  • Guide the development of visual storytelling that reflects real use in demanding outdoor environments
  • Collaborate with photographers, filmmakers, designers, and writers to produce content that feels authentic and grounded in real experience
  • Help balance lifestyle storytelling with product clarity and educational value
Creative Production
  • Own and scale the creative pipeline for ads, social posts, emails, website content, product packaging, in-store displays, and all other brand assets
  • Provide hands-on support to the creative team in producing, editing, and finalizing assets when needed
  • Ensure creative projects move smoothly from concept to production to final delivery
  • Develop processes that help the team operate efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality

Requirements

  • 5-8+ years in design, creative direction, or related creative roles
  • Experience leading a team of designers, photographers, videographers, or other creative partners
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling across digital marketing channels
  • Strong communication and feedback skills
  • Comfort balancing creative exploration with practical execution and deadlines

Extra consideration given to candidates with experience creating work in the outdoor industry or for technical products.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $125,000 annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus. Final compensation will depend on experience, skills, and alignment with the role.
