Position Overview: The Movement Specialist at The Arc Ontario leads engaging movement and dance instruction for individuals in Day Services, creating group and individual experiences that build social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and behavioral skills. This role develops individualized movement plans, maintains a structured curriculum, collaborates with clinical and creative team members, and ensures movement goals are integrated into each person's Staff Action Plan. The Movement Specialist also supports community based movement opportunities, maintains equipment, and provides hands-on assistance during daily routines. Looking for someone who enjoys fitness, games, and dance, and who brings energy and creativity to every session. Responsibilities
  • Responsible for coordinating movement programs offered for day habilitation participants, and other waiver supports. Utilizes a combination or movement & dance to facilitate skill building, maintains movement curriculum that is based upon each participant's needs.
  • Serves as a resource person for staff, regarding how to utilize movement as a teaching and skill building tool. Provides staff training, as requested, in small and large groups.
  • Works closely with other members of the team to ensure that movement activities are coordinated with other routine services (physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, social work, clinic, etc.). Works as a member of the Creative Expressions team, with the Art Specialist, Music Specialist and Horticulture Specialist. Provides a back-up plan for staff to do with individuals, when the Movement Specialist is unavailable.

Requirements
  • BA/BS in Movement/Dance and over 3 months of experience working with the people with disabilities, or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
