Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
University Communications and Marketing protects and advances Carolina's reputation as the nation's first and best public research university. In partnership with leaders and colleagues across campus, the team is responsible for developing and implementing an integrated strategy to share the impact of our university's teaching, research and service that improves our state, nation and world. Areas within University Communications and Marketing include Web Planning and Production, Internal Communications, Development Marketing, Executive Communications, Strategic Communications, Marketing, Social Media, Creative Services, and the UNC Visitors Center.
Position Summary
University Communications and Marketing is seeking a Senior Campus Communications Manager. This is a great position for an experienced communications professional interested in developing content for a campus audience and spearheading communications for major, University-wide initiatives. Successful candidates will have experience working in internal communications, strong organizational skills and an ability to solve problems. Additionally, successful candidates will be interested in creating content that highlights UNC-Chapel Hill and the people who make the University such a special place.
Reporting to the associate vice chancellor and working with colleagues in the Office of University Communications and Marketing, the Senior Campus Communications Manager provides strategic communications support to senior University administrators and serves, along with other colleagues in University Communications as a lead communicator on major University-wide initiatives. The Senior Campus Communications Manager works collaboratively with communications professionals across campus and other senior leaders to deliver a consistent message that supports the University's priorities and advances the University's position as a leader in higher education. 
The Senior Manager will also be a contributing writer for The Well, the University's newsletter for students, faculty and staff. In this role, the senior manager will participate in integrated content planning meetings and write and curate timely news stories and creative features that inform and engage the campus community.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Ability to communicate complex information to targeted audiences. 
  • Ability to plan and convey messages that enhance and promote the mission of the University. 
  • Ability to direct project completion across multiple teams.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • A minimum of five years' experience working in a deadline-driven communications or public relations environment with extensive experience writing professionally for a variety of platforms, including op-eds, blogs and social media. 
  • Detailed working knowledge of issues in higher education, as well as a general knowledge of University policies and operations.
