POSITION OVERVIEW: Director, Managing Counsel - Elevate Creative
Elevate is seeking an experienced and strategic attorney to serve as the Director, Managing Counsel for the Elevate Creative business. Recently bolstered by the strategic acquisitions of Downstream and GA Group, Elevate Creative is a globally integrated design group that dissolves the traditional boundaries between interior architecture, immersive technology, and experiential design.
Reporting directly to Elevate's Chief Corporate Development Officer, with a dotted line to Elevate's VP of Legal and Business Affairs and the President of Elevate Creative, this position will oversee all legal and compliance functions for our global creative design studio. The ideal candidate will be a business-minded legal partner capable of managing complex international integrations, refining commercial contract processes (particularly within the world of architecture, interior design and construction), and supporting a growing global workforce.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the day-to-day legal and compliance functions for the Elevate Creative business globally.
  • Lead the legal integration efforts of GA Group and Downstream into the larger Elevate Creative business, serving as a key member of a multi-disciplinary integration team that includes IT, Finance, Marketing, HR, and Business Development.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide array of client contracts, taking the lead on creating and refining standardized contract forms tailored to Elevate Creative's various disciplines (e.g., environmental design, digital interactive environments, interior design).
  • Create, implement, and refine efficient internal processes for contract requests, vendor onboarding, vendor management, and procurement globally.
  • Manage business licensing, corporate registrations, and other ongoing compliance requirements for Elevate Creative's various international subsidiaries.
  • Partner with Human Resources to assist with employee relations matters and employment law compliance for Elevate Creative's diverse global workforce.
  • Assess legal and operational risks, providing clear, actionable guidance to the President of Elevate Creative and other internal stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education and/or Experience
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree and J.D. from an accredited institution.
  • Must be active and in good standing in one State Bar in the United States.

Necessary/Desired Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience practicing either in a private law firm or an in-house corporate setting, with direct expertise in any or all of the following fields: creative design, environmental design, graphic design, interior design, architectural design and/or construction.
  • Deep familiarity with AIA and/or RIBA form documents and other complex contracts utilized for large-scale architecture, design and construction projects.
  • Experience working in or with multi-national firms, particularly with managing legal functions in the UK/EU and EMEA regions, in addition to the United States.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience working within the professional services or sports and entertainments industries and/or specific expertise dealing with the design of digital interactive environments, sales preview centers, and executive business centers.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Exceptional contract drafting and negotiating skills, with the ability to distill complex legal risks associated with global construction and design projects into actionable business insights.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional project management skills, particularly in the context of post-merger integration.
  • Ability to manage change effectively, deal well with ambiguity/uncertainty and adapt quickly.
  • Team-first mentality and willingness to collaborate across a large organization with employees across the world.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment:

  • This position will be based in Elevate Creative's Nashville, TN studio, with a hybrid in-office/remote working arrangement requiring no less than 3 days in the office per week.
  • As an alternative, we are also considering candidates in Charlotte, NC to work a hybrid in-office schedule (3 days in office) in our Charlotte, NC office.
  • Candidates outside of Nashville, TN or Charlotte, NC may be considered, but would need to relocate to one of these offices. Relocation assistance may be available.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel may be required to support global integration efforts, specifically interacting with studios in London, Portland, and Amsterdam.
  • Physical Demands: This position requires sitting for extended periods while using a computer or phone.
