Job description

Position Overview

The Office of Development is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager, Philanthropic Communications & Creative Services to lead the strategic communications and creative services function for Scouting Americaโ€™s National Office of Development. This leadership role transforms organizational and fundraising priorities into compelling communications, creative assets, and engagement strategies that advance philanthropy and strengthen donor relationships.


Reporting to the Director of Philanthropic Engagement, this position manages a team and provides leadership and direction for communications, creative services, content development, multimedia production, web resources, and project management staff. The Manager oversees the development and execution of integrated communications that support fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, events, executive priorities, and mission-driven initiatives.


Serving as the Office of Developmentโ€™s strategic communications leader, the Manager partners closely with fundraising staff, executive leadership, local councils, and volunteer leaders to identify communication needs, establish priorities, align resources, and ensure the successful delivery of high-impact communications and creative projects. This role also serves as a trusted strategic partner to the Director of Philanthropic Engagement, integrating fundraising objectives, stakeholder needs, creative services, digital resources, and organizational priorities into cohesive communication and engagement strategies. The ideal candidate will have experience with advertising agencies or similar organizations.


Responsibilities

  • Stewardship and Events, to develop and implement integrated communications, engagement, and creative strategies.
  • Translate organizational priorities, fundraising goals, and campaign initiatives into actionable communication and creative plans.
  • Identify crossโ€‘departmental connections, risks, and opportunities to ensure alignment with organizational and fundraising objectives.
  • Serve as strategic thought and creative services partner for donor relations, major gifts, planned giving, corporate giving, foundation relations, campaign leadership, executive leadership, and volunteer councils.
  • Assess stakeholder needs and develop communication plans, creative briefs, content strategies, and project deliverables.
  • Manage project intake, prioritization, timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Coordinate collaboration across fundraising, stewardship, events, communications, marketing, creative, and program teams.
  • Provide strategic guidance on messaging, storytelling, audience engagement, and communication effectiveness.
  • Lead the development and oversee the execution of communications, fundraising materials, stewardship resources, campaign assets, presentations, publications, digital content, and creative deliverables.
  • Ensure all communications and creative assets align with organizational goals, audience needs, and brand standards.
  • Oversee production of print, digital, web, video, presentation, and eventโ€‘related communications.
  • Evaluate communication performance and recommend improvements based on analytics and stakeholder feedback.
  • Direct content strategy, including messaging frameworks, impact stories, proof points, and content resources.
  • Collaborate with leaders and subject matter experts to identify and develop compelling content.
  • Maintain scalable content resources for use across communication channels.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of digital communication tools, multimedia storytelling, websites, and video projects.
  • Guide digital engagement strategies and optimize digital platforms and communication channels.
  • Assess emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance engagement and efficiency.
  • Direct production of publications, reports, campaign materials, stewardship resources, event creative, presentations, websites, videos, and related assets.
  • Manage external vendors for design, photography, videography, web development, printing, and multimedia production.
  • Establish quality standards and oversee project schedules, budgets, contracts, and deliverables.
  • Implement systems and processes that improve efficiency, scalability, and consistency.
  • Lead, coach, and evaluate communications, creative services, content, multimedia, web, and project management staff.
  • Set priorities, workflows, performance expectations, and professional development plans.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and service excellence.
  • Support succession planning and staff development.Perform other jobโ€‘related duties as assigned.


Competencies

  • Knowledge of: Strategic and integrated communications, stakeholder engagement, content strategy, storytelling, creative services, brand management, multimedia and web content production, project management, vendor management, budgeting, and organizational communications. Knowledge of fundraising communications, donor engagement, philanthropy, stewardship, and nonprofit or missionโ€‘driven environments is preferred.
  • Skill in: Strategic planning, stakeholder and account management, communications and content development, creative direction, project and team leadership, executive communication, vendor oversight, collaboration, facilitation, problemโ€‘solving, and managing complex, multiโ€‘stakeholder initiatives.
  • Ability to: Develop integrated communication and creative strategies; translate executive priorities into actionable plans; identify crossโ€‘departmental connections and opportunities; anticipate stakeholder needs; balance strategic thinking with operational execution; lead through influence; build strong relationships across diverse groups; manage multiple highโ€‘profile projects simultaneously; and exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, creative services, marketing, agency account management, stakeholder engagement, content strategy, organizational communications, fundraising communications, public relations, or related fields.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience, including responsibility for supervising staff, leading major initiatives, managing complex projects, or directing cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience developing integrated strategies that align multiple stakeholders, communication channels, organizational priorities, and business objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience advising leaders, influencing decision-making, and translating strategic objectives into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.


Preferences

  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in fundraising communications, philanthropy or advancement operations, donor engagement and stewardship, nonprofit or missionโ€‘driven organizations, higher education advancement, membership or volunteerโ€‘led organizations, agency account management, consulting, inโ€‘house creative services teams, or Scouting America programs and operations.
