What is a Creative Apprentice?

A Creative Apprentice is an entry-level professional who works under the guidance of experienced creatives, such as designers, copywriters, or art directors, to learn the skills and workflows necessary in creative industries. Their responsibilities often include assisting with projects, brainstorming ideas, and developing their technical and artistic abilities. This role is typically designed to provide hands-on experience and mentorship, helping apprentices build a foundation for a career in fields like advertising, design, or media. Creative Apprenticeships can be found in agencies, studios, and in-house creative teams, offering a structured path to employment and professional growth.

What types of projects can a Creative Apprentice expect to work on, and how are they typically supported by the team?

As a Creative Apprentice, you'll often contribute to a variety of projects such as assisting with campaign brainstorming, graphic design, copywriting, or social media content creation. Apprentices usually work closely with senior creatives and project managers, receiving mentorship and regular feedback to help develop their skills. Collaboration is key, and you'll likely participate in team meetings, creative reviews, and cross-departmental initiatives. This hands-on exposure provides a practical learning environment and sets a strong foundation for future advancement in creative roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Creative Apprentice, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Apprentice, you need a basic understanding of design principles, visual storytelling, and a portfolio showcasing creative work, often supported by relevant coursework or training. Familiarity with industry-standard design software like Adobe Creative Suite and digital collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong communication, openness to feedback, and a proactive attitude are valuable soft skills that help you learn and grow in collaborative environments. These skills and qualities are important because they enable you to contribute fresh ideas, adapt to client needs, and succeed in a fast-paced creative industry.

Job description

Do you want to do work that matters, alongside supportive leaders who will help you grow faster than you ever thought possible? Are you a creative problem-solver who is energized by challenges? You've come to the right place.
YOUR IMPACT
As an OptimusAI Senior Data Science Analyst, you will help leading companies across the Energy and Materials sector unlock their full productivity potential using AI.
Collaborating in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of 3-6 experts, you will use your creativity and analytics expertise to enhance client performance in areas such as energy efficiency, product quality, and capacity. You will be working side-by-side with the client's process engineers and analytics specialists and will be communicating your work to executive audiences.
Internally, you will collaborate with our talented product engineers to develop innovative products and algorithms to address current and future client needs. You will help codify best practices, radiate our impact in/externally and shape the product roadmap.
Along the way, you will benefit from world-class training in business problem structuring and client advisory, while working closely with senior manufacturing and analytics experts. You will experience unparalleled career growth with significant ownership and responsibility from day one, all within a collaborative, diverse, and non-hierarchical environment. You can seize the opportunity to travel to client sites, locally and around the world.
Please submit a cover letter detailing why you are the perfect fit for our team and how you can contribute to our mission!
You will be based in our Houston or Denver office as part of McKinsey's manufacturing AI solution (OptimusAI), which sits at the intersection of three practices.

Finally, the Operations Practice which assists our clients in solving complex operational challenges by developing and implementing operational strategies, initiatives, and solutions for their most critical problems, connecting boardroom strategies to the shop floor operators.
At the intersection of these groups, OptimusAI is a team of ~10 expert consultants, data scientists and engineers, focused on improving processing plant productivity through data analytics.
We develop real-time AI advisory systems to support decision making in the plant control room, we assess and optimize process control systems, and we unlock plant bottlenecks through data-driven process changes.
OptimusAI supports a global community of consultants by developing an innovative machine learning toolkit and codifying the approach to deliver significant and lasting client impact.
There is flexibility to hire at the Senior Data Science Analyst or Data Science Specialist level, depending on your experience. Salary range $110,000-$110,000
YOUR GROWTH
Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is not easy work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high performance/high reward culture - doing hard things, picking yourself up when you stumble, and having the resilience to try another way forward.
In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we'll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become a stronger leader faster than you ever thought possible. Your colleagues-at all levels-will invest deeply in your development, just as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients.
