First Databank (FDB) is currently seeking a Medical Device in the Quality department. This position is responsible for researching data published from the FDA, device manufactures, and other credible sources to generate unbiased, robust medical device content for our device solution with an emphasis on HCPCS coding for medical devices.
This position is based out of our Carmel office and follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation to work onsite at least three days per week.
Responsibilities:
  • Researches pertinent information from various sources such as manufacturers and CMS to assign the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes, to medical device content.
  • Update and maintain our HCPCS library through detailed research.
  • Uses research to develop and maintain HCPCS mapping and wizard.
  • Provides training to staff members.
  • Ensure accuracy of codes applied to devices using data audits, validations and reviews.
  • Updates HCPCS codes as changes are made to GMDN and/or UNSPSC categories.
  • Evaluates current categorization schema and provides feedback and training to categorization staff.
  • Evaluates medical device content to ensure the accuracy of HCPCS mappings.
  • Follows up with manufacturers when code assignments are not straightforward or data is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Ensures updates from CMS are applied to data in a timely manner using maintenance tools.
  • Ensures accuracy of codes and codes are current and active.
  • Searches for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual.
  • Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines.
  • Keeps abreast of and complies with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements

  • Demonstrates responsible use of AI by validating all AI-generated outputs against credible sources, official coding guidance, internal standards, and professional judgment.
  • Maintains compliance with data privacy, company security policies, ethical coding standards, and appropriate human oversight when using AI tools.
Required Experience:
  • Two years of coding experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Previous experience in supply chain management or medical device industry preferred.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification.
