What is a Covenant Trust?

A Covenant Trust typically refers to a trust established under a covenant, which is a legal agreement often used by religious organizations to manage and distribute assets in line with their values and mission. In the context of estate planning, a Covenant Trust can help individuals or organizations manage, protect, and transfer wealth, often with specific stipulations aligned with religious or ethical commitments. These trusts are designed to ensure that assets are used in accordance with the agreed-upon covenant, offering both legal protection and peace of mind to donors and beneficiaries.

What are the primary responsibilities of a professional working at a covenant trust company?

Professionals at a covenant trust company typically manage trusts and estates, ensuring that fiduciary duties are carried out according to the terms set by clients. Their daily responsibilities often include administering assets, coordinating with investment advisors, providing regular account reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. They also work closely with clients, beneficiaries, legal counsel, and other financial professionals to address questions, resolve issues, and support long-term financial planning. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a customer-focused mindset.
