Job TitleMedical Surgical Course Manager
Job SummaryThe Medical Surgical Course Manager is responsible for supporting the coordination, delivery, implementation, and continuous improvement of medical-surgical and geriatric nursing education within Saint Mary's College's pre-licensure BSN Program. This position supports clinical education operations, simulation activities, accreditation and compliance efforts, and instructional coordination related to the medical-surgical nursing curriculum. The Medical Surgical Course Manager collaborates with Nursing Program leadership, clinical partners, faculty, staff, and students to support student learning experiences, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure effective program operations within assigned content areas.
Essential Responsibilities- Coordinate and support the implementation of medical-surgical and geriatric nursing clinical and instructional activities within the pre-licensure BSN Program.
- Assist with coordination of clinical placements, site communications, schedules, and student clinical experiences with affiliated healthcare partners.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clinical agencies, preceptors, and external partners related to clinical operations and coordination activities.
- Monitor and maintain clinical placement records, student clinical documentation, and related compliance materials in accordance with California BRN and accreditation requirements.
- Support simulation-based learning activities, including setup, facilitation support, scheduling coordination, and operational readiness of simulation experiences related to medical-surgical nursing content.
- Collaborate with Nursing Program leadership and faculty to support delivery and implementation of approved course content, instructional materials, simulation activities, and clinical learning experiences.
- Assist with orientation, coordination, and ongoing support of part-time clinical instructors and preceptors assigned to medical-surgical and geriatric nursing clinical experiences.
- Monitor student clinical hours, participation, competency documentation, and related records for compliance and program reporting purposes.
- Coordinate and support continuous program improvement activities through data collection, documentation review, assessment support, and maintenance of required records.
- Coordinate preparation and organization of materials related to accreditation reviews, regulatory compliance activities, program assessments, and reporting requirements.
- Participate in evaluation and review of clinical sites to support safe, effective, and appropriate student learning environments.
- Coordinate with simulation staff, faculty, and program leadership regarding scheduling, equipment, operational needs, and simulation support activities.
- Provide support and guidance to students regarding clinical expectations, procedures, schedules, and program requirements within assigned content areas.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable nursing regulations, clinical standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices related to medical-surgical and geriatric nursing education.
- Participate in Nursing Program meetings, operational planning activities, training sessions, and departmental initiatives as assigned.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to support effective Nursing Program operations and student success initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and QualificationsEducation: Master's degree in Nursing or related field required.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical nursing experience medical-surgical nursing required. Experience supporting nursing education, clinical coordination, simulation activities, or healthcare training programs preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, healthcare professionals, and external clinical partners.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and operational priorities.
- Knowledge of clinical nursing practices, healthcare regulations, and nursing education environments.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and support compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and independent decision-making within assigned responsibilities.

Licenses & Certifications:
Active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. BLS certification required.
