Location:Â Burlingame, CAÂ
Department:Â LegalÂ
Reports to:Â VP of LegalÂ
Position Type:Â Full TimeÂ
About Peak Energy
Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid. Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available, and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.Â
Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, SunPower, Fluence, and Enovix. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures.Â
About the Role - Corporate Counsel
Peak Energy is seeking a highly motivated and business-minded Corporate Counsel to join our growing team. This role will serve as a key legal partner across the company, supporting a broad range of commercial, operational, corporate, and strategic initiatives.Â
This is an opportunity for a hands-on legal generalist who thrives in fast-moving environments and enjoys building processes from the ground up. You will work closely with leadership, commercial, engineering, supply chain, and operations teams to help scale the company responsibly while enabling the business to move quickly and efficiently.Â
The ideal candidate is someone who can operate with a high degree of autonomy, exercise strong judgment, and confidently own projects from start to finish. This role will act as a critical extension of the legal function and help establish scalable legal frameworks, contract processes, and operational best practices as Peak enters its next phase of growth.Â
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Commercial Contracting & Business OperationsÂ
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements including sales and service contracts, offtake agreements, and procurement and vendor agreementsÂ
- Partner closely with commercial and sales teams to improve contracting workflows and support rapid business growth Â
- Support supply chain and procurement initiatives, including manufacturing, equipment, and strategic supplier relationships Â
- Assist with performance guarantees, commissioning terms, warranties, and other operationally complex contractual provisions relevant to the energy industryÂ
Corporate & Strategic InitiativesÂ
- Support corporate governance activities, fundraising efforts, board materials, and related corporate matters Â
- Provide legal guidance on new business initiatives, partnerships, and emerging workstreams across the organization Â
- Help establish internal legal processes, policies, and operational protocols that enable teams to operate efficiently and autonomously Â
- Serve as a trusted advisor capable of balancing legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced startup environment Â
Intellectual Property & Regulatory SupportÂ
- Support intellectual property matters including patents and trademarks, and coordinating with IP counsel as neededÂ
- Provide practical guidance on regulatory and compliance matters impacting the business and energy storage industry Â
What You'll Bring (Qualifications)
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership California state bar Â
- 5+ years of legal experience with a combination of law firm and/or in-house experience preferred Â
- Experience independently drafting, negotiating, and advising stakeholders through transaction lifecycles with a practical, business-oriented mindset with sound judgment and a strong attention to detailÂ
- Strong understanding of corporate law, commercial contracting in the energy industry, and general business operations Â
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute autonomously in a fast-paced environment Â
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across technical and non-technical teams Â
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Prior in-house counsel experience at an energy, infrastructure, climate technology, or manufacturing companyÂ
- Experience working closely with engineering or product organizations Â
- Experience supporting fundraising, M&A, and corporate governance matters Â
- Knowledge of California and Texas energy markets is a plusÂ
Compensation and BenefitsÂ
Peak Energy is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We strongly encourage women, people of color, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. We value skills, potential, and perspective over specific credentials. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't look perfect on paper, we still want to hear from you.Â
Our Core ValuesÂ
- Speed Through Focus - Move fast but understand why. Focus on the goal, don't sacrifice quality. Â
- Mission Over Self - It's about the greater good; confident humility. Take ownership and accountability. Â
- Face the Brutal Truth - Transparency, honesty, big picture curiosity. Fearless decision making. Â
- Be a Good Person - Kindness, collaboration and teamwork.Â
Compensation & BenefitsÂ
The salary range for this role is $180,000-$250,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:Â
- Flexible time off Â
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage Â
- Strong 401(k) plan Â
- Equity opportunities Â
- Many great work perksÂ
Join us to thrive in a supportive environment while making a meaningful impact in the energy sector!Â
At Peak Energy Technologies Inc., we believe that a diverse and inclusive workplace makes us a more capable, innovative, and competitive company. We welcome people who represent diversity in their backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, and experiences.
