Job description

FPA Manager of Communications
 
The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), a national trade association based in Annapolis, Maryland, representing over 98,000 direct manufacturing jobs in the U.S., seeks a Manager of Communications. This position will manage various aspects of the FPA’s communications, marketing, and public relations portfolio, including, but not limited to, content development, collateral and publications design and production, database management, proofreading, copy editing, writing, and social media and websites management.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Assist Vice President of Communications with designing, copy editing, proofing, writing, producing, and/or disseminating all FPA recurring print and online member and industry communications, annual and recurring publications and reports, and press releases.
  •  Manage database and relationships for media and trade contacts and publications. 
  • Assist the Vice President of Communications and the Director of Membership and Meetings with the development and execution of communications and collateral for all member meetings.
  • Assist the Vice President of Communications with the execution and promotion of the annual FPA Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards Competition.
  • Manage all aspects of the annual FPA Achievement Awards & Innovation Showcase.
  • Manage all aspects of the annual FPA Student Design Challenge.
  • Manage all industry/association events, media, and tradeshow partnerships.
  • Manage all FPA social media, including calendars, content, distribution, and monitoring.
  • Manage content and updates for all FPA websites.
  •  Assist FPA staff with drafting, copy editing, and proofing needs as requested.
  • Serve as support staff for relevant FPA coalitions, committees, and councils in coordination with FPA’s staff as needed. 
  • Provide strategic guidance and look for opportunities to expand and enhance FPA’s communications, marketing, and public relations activities to promote the flexible packaging industry and products to key audiences.
Education and Experience 
 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, and/or public relations. 
  • ·3-5 years’ experience in communications and marketing with an emphasis on writing, copy editing, design, and production of newsletters, collateral, and other communication materials.
  • Trade association experience desired but not required.
  • Awareness of public policy advocacy and lobbying functions and purpose is desired but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
 
  • Excellent copy editing, proofing, written, and verbal communication skills with diverse stakeholder audiences, including consultants, industry stakeholders, and media.
  • Strong experience with a wide array of communications and marketing software platforms and tools, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Campaign Monitor/Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva.
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with communications, marketing, and public relations consultants and vendors. 
  • Experience with advertising and media placement, and print and video production is a plus. 
  • Ability to prioritize and work on various projects simultaneously, adjust to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results.  
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail and excellent analytical, strategic, problem-solving, and organizational skills. 
  • Familiarity with managing committee and coalition work within a trade association.
  • A commitment to promoting and working in an inclusive and diverse environment with colleagues from multiple backgrounds. 
  • Ability to travel – likely less than 20%.
