Job Summary: 

The Director of Development is a strategic fundraising leader responsible for driving revenue growth across individual giving, corporate partnerships, and institutional funding. This role oversees the planning and execution of Habitat KC's annual giving campaign, manages a portfolio of donors and partners, and leads the development of compelling proposals and grant submissions. The Director will be a data-driven, relationship-focused professional who can translate strategy into results, while strengthening a sustainable and diversified funding pipeline.


Starting salary is $70,000.

Primary Responsibilities: 


  • Direct a comprehensive annual giving strategy, overseeing segmentation, messaging, timelines, and performance to drive donor acquisition, retention, and upgrades. 
  • Lead the development and execution of Habitat KC's end-of-year campaign in close collaboration with marketing, ensuring cohesive messaging, integrated channels, and strong performance against revenue goals.
  • Manage the FreeWill partnership and oversee planned giving communications and stewardship
  • Lead the growth and long-term sustainability of individual giving across annual and mid-level donors, building a strong pipeline for major gifts. 
  • Lead the expansion and sustainability of the mid- to major-level corporate giving strategy, including segmentation, annual revenue goals, and moves management plans. 
  • Oversee the strategy and execution of corporate giving, including sponsorships, partnerships, and engagement opportunities aligned with organizational priorities. 
  • Develop and lead the strategic growth and execution of Habitat KC's affinity build initiatives, including Women Build, Pride Build, and Veterans Build. 
  • Manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors, with responsibility for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. 
  • Create and implement strategies to upgrade mid-level donors into major donors across corporate and individual giving. 
  • Lead the research, writing, and submission of corporate grant proposals, ensuring alignment with program priorities and funding opportunities. 
  • Oversee the development of donor-facing materials, including sponsorship packages, proposals, annual giving appeals, impact reports, and stewardship communications. 
  • Monitor performance and pipeline health across all giving streams, using data to analyze, report, and refine strategies to achieve revenue goals and ensure long-term sustainability.


Other Development Activities: 

  • Collaborate with the broader Community Engagement team to strengthen a culture of philanthropy and align strategies across fundraising efforts. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications, Education and Experience: 


  • BA/BS Degree preferred
  • 5-7 years' experience in the field of Resource Development or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with volunteer management software and donor database software preferred.
