Job description

Do you enjoy working with students and thrive in a team environment? Minnetonka Public Schools is hiring Cook Helpers for Nutrition Services at multiple school locations for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a 10-month, school-year position, and you work when students are in school, with no summer commitment required. No prior food service experience is required; just bring reliability, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Heat, cook, and pre-dish food following Cook Manager instruction.
  • Portion, garnish, and serve food items.
  • Set up and clean up the kitchen and serving areas.
  • Follow safety and sanitation standards in handling, storing, and serving food.
  • Perform record keeping functions as requested by the Cook Manager.
  • Assist in preparing food items.
  • Perform point-of-sale and cashiering duties as part of kitchen rotation.

Qualifications:

  • ServSafe Certification desirable.
  • Computer experience is helpful.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Must enjoy working with students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, as assessed through a preplacement physical at Concentra.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting at $21.72/hr. 
  • 6-hour per day positions provide medical and dental benefit eligibility. 

Location & Shift Times:

  • Locations: Excelsior Elementary, Minnewashta Elementary, Scenic Heights Elementary, Middle School East, Middle School West, and Minnetonka High School.
  • Position works on all school days. 
  • Within the hours of 8:15 AM to 2:15 PM, subject to school start time | 4 to 6 hours per day.
  • Building assignment subject to change based on staffing needs.
  • Training and kitchen opening: August 25 and 26, 2026 (week before school starts).
