What is a Conversion Rate Optimization job?

A Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) job involves analyzing user behavior, running A/B tests, and implementing strategies to improve the percentage of website visitors who take a desired action, such as making a purchase or signing up for a newsletter. CRO specialists use data, analytics, and user feedback to identify barriers in the conversion funnel and optimize website elements like landing pages, forms, and calls-to-action. The goal is to enhance user experience and increase conversions without increasing traffic.

What are the typical challenges faced by professionals in Conversion Rate Optimization, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Conversion Rate Optimization often face challenges such as interpreting complex user data, running statistically valid experiments, and balancing various stakeholder priorities. It can take time to achieve meaningful results since significant changes in conversion rates may require multiple iterations of testing and optimization. To address these challenges, strong analytical skills and open communication with marketing, design, and development teams are essential. Many employers also encourage ongoing learning and team collaboration to stay updated with evolving CRO strategies. This collaborative and data-driven environment helps CRO specialists implement effective solutions that drive business growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Conversion Rate Optimization position, and why are they important?

To excel in Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO), you need a solid understanding of digital marketing, data analysis, user experience (UX) principles, and A/B testing methodologies, typically supported by a degree in marketing, statistics, or a related field. Familiarity with CRO tools such as Google Analytics, Optimizely, VWO, and heatmapping software, as well as certifications in analytics or UX, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and effective communication help in interpreting data and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for identifying opportunities, implementing meaningful experiments, and driving measurable improvements in conversion rates.

Job description

Job Summary:
Range is a company creating AI-powered solutions to simplify financial management for its members. They are seeking a Growth Engineer to manage the technical infrastructure for their acquisition engine, focusing on conversion rate optimization, experimentation systems, and GTM infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
• Own the technical implementations behind Conversion Rate Optimization. Build and ship landing page experiments, signup funnels, scheduling and lead routing. Write the JavaScript that powers dynamic content and personalized experiences. Take projects from concept to production without needing a PM to define every step.
• Run the experimentation system. Build and maintain the A/B testing framework, feature flags, and targeting logic that the team uses to ship experiments across landing pages, signup flows, and the broader funnel. Translate funnel insights into technical implementations that actually move conversion.
• Build and maintain GTM infrastructure. Architect the integrations connecting our website, CRM, analytics, and ad platforms. Build the APIs, webhooks, and automations that move data cleanly between them. Debug across tools when something breaks - and these systems break in interesting ways.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5–9 years in growth engineering, web development with a CRO focus, or a similar hands-on role
• Strong JavaScript and SQL skills; experience with React a plus
• Direct experience with CRO and A/B testing - you've shipped tests, owned the framework, and have opinions on what works
• Comfort building integrations across APIs, webhooks, and the tools in a modern GTM stack
• Familiarity with tracking implementations: GA4, Segment or RudderStack, server-side GTM
• A strong sense of ownership. You ship, you iterate, and you find the next problem to work on without being handed it.
Preferred:
• Direct experience with marketing measurement and a strong understanding of growth concepts.
• Fintech, wealth management, or other regulated-industry experience
• GraphQL experience
Company:
Range is an AI wealthtech platform that provides wealth management and financial advisory services. Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in Mclean, USA, with a team of 51-200 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
