What is a Conversion Rate Optimization job?

A Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) job involves analyzing user behavior, running A/B tests, and implementing strategies to improve the percentage of website visitors who take a desired action, such as making a purchase or signing up for a newsletter. CRO specialists use data, analytics, and user feedback to identify barriers in the conversion funnel and optimize website elements like landing pages, forms, and calls-to-action. The goal is to enhance user experience and increase conversions without increasing traffic.

What are the typical challenges faced by professionals in Conversion Rate Optimization, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Conversion Rate Optimization often face challenges such as interpreting complex user data, running statistically valid experiments, and balancing various stakeholder priorities. It can take time to achieve meaningful results since significant changes in conversion rates may require multiple iterations of testing and optimization. To address these challenges, strong analytical skills and open communication with marketing, design, and development teams are essential. Many employers also encourage ongoing learning and team collaboration to stay updated with evolving CRO strategies. This collaborative and data-driven environment helps CRO specialists implement effective solutions that drive business growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Conversion Rate Optimization position, and why are they important?

To excel in Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO), you need a solid understanding of digital marketing, data analysis, user experience (UX) principles, and A/B testing methodologies, typically supported by a degree in marketing, statistics, or a related field. Familiarity with CRO tools such as Google Analytics, Optimizely, VWO, and heatmapping software, as well as certifications in analytics or UX, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and effective communication help in interpreting data and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for identifying opportunities, implementing meaningful experiments, and driving measurable improvements in conversion rates.

Job description

About HD Exteriors

HD Exteriors is a growing home exteriors contractor with multiple locations serving Northern Virginia,

Maryland, and Richmond. We specialize in decks, patios, porches, screen rooms, and more. We’re looking for

a hands-on Marketing Manager to own and execute our entire marketing operation — from paid ads to lead

management to campaign strategy.

This is not a “manage the team” role. You are the team. We need someone who rolls up their sleeves, builds

campaigns, monitors performance, and drives results. You’ll have support from third-party partners (SEO,

etc.), but day-to-day execution is on you.

The candidate selected will need to have a broad marketing understanding and prioritize tasks based on the

potential impact. Ideal candidate is organized and keeps a regular weekly schedule.

What You’ll Do

Paid Advertising

•Build, manage, and optimize Google Ads and Microsoft Ads campaigns

•Create and manage Facebook/Meta ad campaigns

•Monitor ad spend, cost per lead, and conversion metrics across all channels

Lead Management

•Monitor all lead sources and track effectiveness

•Manage appointment setters and oversee the lead rehash process

•Identify and evaluate new lead sources and partnerships

•Renew and manage third-party lead source subscriptions

Media & Content

•Design ad creatives, social graphics, and marketing materials using Canva, Photoshop, or similar tools

•Manage and update content across marketing channels

Events

•Plan and manage 3–5 weekend home shows per year

Reporting & KPIs

•Build and monitor marketing reports

•Track KPIs including cost per lead, lead volume, conversion rates, and ROI by channel

•Report directly to ownership on marketing performance

Additional Experience (Preferred, Not Required)

These are areas we’re growing into. Experience here is a strong plus:

Video — Shoot and edit short-form video for social media

Website & Landing Pages — Edit and optimize WordPress pages using Elementor

Direct Mail — Design and execute direct mail campaigns

Email Campaigns — Build and run email marketing strategy

Workflow Automation — Design and monitor email, call, and SMS workflows to improve speed-to-lead

and conversion rates

AI-Powered Lead Handling — We’re implementing AI tools for voice, chat, email, and SMS lead handling.

You’d help monitor and refine that strategy as it evolves.

SEO Coordination — Work with our third-party SEO team, provide assets, and help guide site

performance goals

Who You Are

5+ years of hands-on marketing experience — you’ve personally run ad accounts, not just managed

people who do

Comfortable across platforms — Google Ads, Meta Ads, Microsoft Ads, email marketing, social media

Tech-savvy — you pick up new tools quickly and aren’t intimidated by CRMs, automation platforms, or AI

Data-driven — you make decisions based on metrics, not gut feel

Self-directed — you don’t need someone telling you what to do every day

Home services or contractor industry experience is a plus but not required

Local to the Northern Virginia area — this is a hybrid role based out of our Dumfries office

What We Offer

Salary: $100,000 – $125,000 depending on experience

Performance Bonus: Profit share (percentage negotiated based on experience)

Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision — $500/month employer contribution

401(k): With 3% company contribution

•PTO

Autonomy: You’ll own the marketing function and have a direct line to the owner

Growth: We’re a company that’s investing in marketing, technology, and scale — not cutting corners

How to Apply

Submit your resume and a brief note on your paid advertising experience — specifically which platforms

you’ve managed and approximate monthly budgets. We’re not looking for a cover letter essay, just enough to

know you’ve actually done this work.

HD Exteriors is an equal opportunity employer.
