Job Title: Controls Engineer
Location: Archibald, Ohio (supporting Findlay and satellite plants)
Reports To: Engineering Manager
 
Role Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join our Archibald, Ohio plant, a key supplier of brake and gas line tubing. This role is focused on strengthening internal expertise in PLC programming and process improvement, reducing reliance on external support, and driving incremental automation and modernization across plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
PLC Programming & Troubleshooting
Develop, modify, and debug PLC and HMI programs, with emphasis on Allen Bradley and Siemens systems (covering ~75% of plant controls).
Provide support for Omron systems (~20%) and other minor platforms.
Troubleshoot drives, HMIs, and automation systems to ensure reliable plant operations.
Process Improvement & Automation
Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams to identify opportunities for automation of operator tasks.
Implement cost-effective improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.
Support kaizen initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
New Equipment Integration
Work hands-on with integrator electricians during installation of new equipment, particularly Siemens-based systems from German suppliers.
Participate in trial runs and ensure smooth integration of new processes.
Training & Knowledge Transfer
Provide PLC training and technical guidance to Engineering and Maintenance associates.
Build internal expertise to reduce reliance on external support.
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Maintenance, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
Strong expertise in Allen Bradley PLCs, Siemens drives, and HMIs.
Automotive or manufacturing background preferred; robotics experience not required.
Hands-on approach with willingness to collaborate directly on the plant floor.
Effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, MS Project, and modern manufacturing processes.
