What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Microgrid Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Microgrid Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering, power systems, and project management, often supported by a bachelor's or master's degree and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. Familiarity with SCADA systems, grid simulation software (such as ETAP or HOMER), and renewable energy integration is typically required. Leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving skills are crucial for managing teams and coordinating multidisciplinary projects. These competencies ensure the successful design, implementation, and operation of efficient, reliable microgrid solutions in evolving energy markets.

What are some common challenges faced by Manager Microgrid Engineers in overseeing project implementation?

Manager Microgrid Engineers often encounter challenges such as coordinating multidisciplinary teams, balancing project timelines with regulatory requirements, and ensuring seamless integration of diverse energy resources. They must also address technical complexities in system design, manage stakeholder expectations, and adapt to rapidly evolving technologies. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for overcoming these challenges and delivering reliable, efficient microgrid solutions.

What does a Manager Microgrid Engineer do?

A Manager Microgrid Engineer oversees the design, development, and implementation of microgrid systems, which are localized energy grids that can operate independently or in conjunction with the main power grid. They lead engineering teams, manage projects, and ensure that microgrid solutions meet technical, regulatory, and sustainability requirements. Additionally, they often coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and other departments to ensure successful project delivery and optimal system performance.

What is the difference between Manager Microgrid Engineer vs Microgrid Engineer?

About Greenlink Energy Solutions

Greenlink Energy Solutions is building the next generation of commercial clean energy infrastructuredesigned for performance, resilience, and long-term value.
We partner with organizations to develop and integrate intelligent energy systems that reduce risk, control costs, and strengthen operational independence. Our work spans solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), microgrids, HVAC modernization, and energy optimizationaligned around one core principle: real-world outcomes backed by engineering discipline and lifecycle accountability.
We are not simply a contractor. We serve as developer, integrator, and long-term strategic partnerbringing together technical rigor, financial alignment, and operational control to ensure projects perform as intended over time.
As we scale, we are building a disciplined and repeatable commercial platformone that prioritizes ownership, integration, and long-term system performance. We seek professionals who are energized by growth, value sound judgment, and want to help shape the future of commercial clean energy delivery.

About This Role

The BESS / Microgrid Engineer plays a critical technical role in the design and integration of advanced energy systems across Greenlinks commercial project portfolio.
This role focuses on the engineering, modeling, and performance optimization of battery energy storage systems, solar + storage integrations, and commercial microgrids. The engineer will work across the full project lifecyclefrom early feasibility and system architecture through commissioning and operational validation.
This is not purely a modeling or drafting role. The BESS / Microgrid Engineer is expected to apply independent engineering judgment, understand system-level interactions, and guide design decisions that ensure reliable, cost-effective, and resilient energy systems.
What Youll Do

System Design & Architecture
  • Lead technical design of battery energy storage systems and commercial microgrid architectures
  • Define system sizing, electrical configurations, and integration strategies for solar PV + storage and grid-interactive energy systems
  • Evaluate site electrical infrastructure, load characteristics, and operational objectives to determine optimal system design
  • Support selection of batteries, inverters, PCS systems, transformers, switchgear, and other balance-of-system components
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, AHJ requirements, and utility interconnection standards
System Modeling & Performance Analysis
  • Develop and validate performance models for energy storage and microgrid systems
  • Evaluate operational strategies, including peak shaving, load shifting, resiliency, and islanding capabilities
  • Analyze system stability and performance under normal operation and contingency scenarios
  • Support production modeling and long-term performance projections for project development and financing
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Sales, Development, and Operations teams to support technical feasibility and system optimization
  • Work closely with solar engineers, electrical designers, and installation teams to ensure constructable designs
  • Evaluate vendor equipment specifications and performance characteristics
  • Provide technical guidance during procurement, installation, and commissioning phases
Risk Management & System Optimization
  • Identify technical risks early in project development and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Evaluate design tradeoffs related to performance, cost, resiliency, and operational flexibility
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis during commissioning and system operations
  • Maintain accurate documentation, system models, and as-built engineering records
Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to the development of engineering standards for storage and microgrid systems
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and integration strategies
  • Support internal knowledge development across solar, storage, and energy optimization platforms
What Youll Bring
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of experience in energy storage, power systems engineering, microgrids, or distributed energy systems
  • Strong understanding of battery energy storage systems, power conversion systems, and grid-interactive energy infrastructure
  • Experience designing or supporting solar + storage or microgrid projects
  • Familiarity with electrical system modeling tools or performance modeling methodologies
  • Working knowledge of NEC, interconnection requirements, and utility coordination
  • Ability to evaluate system behavior and make sound engineering decisions across multiple design constraints
