Position Overview

The Document Control Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for driving the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of document control operations across large, complex projects within Kiewit's Advanced Technology market.

This role leads the development and implementation of scalable document management processes, systems, and standards that enable efficient, accurate, and compliant information flow across the full project lifecycle, from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning, and final turnover.

The Document Control Manager will partner closely with cross-functional project teams, including engineering, construction, quality, and project management, to ensure that document workflows are fully integrated, high-performing, and aligned with project and contractual requirements.

This position requires a strong leader who can operate effectively in fast-paced, high-growth environments, managing high volumes of complex documentation while driving standardization, consistency, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, operational discipline, and leadership capability to build and lead high-performing teams, influence stakeholders, and deliver reliable, audit-ready project documentation at scale.

District Overview

Kiewit's Industrial District is a leading provider of construction and engineering services, delivering some of the most complex and challenging projects across North America. Within the Advanced Technology market, our teams support fast-paced, high-performance projects that require strong coordination, disciplined execution, and consistent processes. This role plays a key part in supporting project teams by ensuring controlled, efficient, and reliable management of project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Location

This position may be based in a district or area office or on a project site, depending on business needs. Candidates must be willing to travel and relocate as required to support project assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee document control operations for large, complex Advanced Technology projects, ensuring consistent, high-quality execution across the full project lifecycle.
  • Define and implement document control strategy, processes, and standards that enable scalable, efficient, and compliant management of project information.
  • Drive integration of document management systems and workflows across engineering, procurement, construction, quality, and commissioning teams to support seamless project execution.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and controlled document flow, including drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and turnover documentation, in alignment with contractual and project requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop document control teams, establishing clear expectations, driving performance, and building scalable organizational capability to support project growth.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and project leadership to proactively identify risks, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement in document control performance and execution.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of document control systems and data, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, revision control, and compliance across all project documentation.
  • Establish performance metrics, reporting, and visibility into document control activities, enabling data-driven decision-making and early identification of risks or bottlenecks.
  • Lead coordination with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure timely submission, review, approval, and closeout of project documentation.
  • Oversee audit readiness, project reviews, and turnover activities, ensuring complete, accurate, and fully compliant project records at all stages.
  • Champion standardization and continuous improvement, identifying process gaps and implementing solutions that enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency across projects.
  • Ensure the proper handling of confidential and sensitive information, maintaining compliance with company policies and contractual obligations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, information management, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 8 plus years of progressive experience in document control, records management, or project administration within construction, engineering, EPC, or industrial environments, with demonstrated success supporting large-scale projects.
  • Proven leadership experience (3+ years) managing or leading document control teams, including establishing processes, driving performance, and developing staff on complex projects.
  • Experience supporting large, complex, and fast-paced projects, preferably within Advanced Technology, mission critical, industrial, or manufacturing environments, where precision and speed are essential.
  • Deep knowledge of document control best practices, including revision control, records retention, transmittals, document lifecycle management, audit support, and project turnover/closeout requirements.
  • Hands-on proficiency with leading enterprise document management platforms, including InEight, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), SharePoint, or comparable systems, with the ability to optimize workflows across integrated project environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-volume documentation and complex workflows across engineering, procurement, construction, quality, and commissioning functions.
  • Strong data management and digital acumen, with advanced Microsoft Office skills and the ability to analyze, organize, and communicate large volumes of project information accurately and efficiently.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams, drive process improvements, and ensure alignment across diverse project stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in high-growth, high-performance environments, managing multiple priorities while maintaining quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, strong judgment, and attention to detail, with a commitment to delivering accurate, timely, and compliant project documentation.

Base Compensation: $100,000/yr - $125,000/yr
