Commissioning Turnover Coordinator

Location: Glastonbury, CT

Employment Type: Full-Time, In-person

Position Overview

Gemma Power Systems is currently seeking a full-time Commissioning Turnover Coordinator to join us at our home office in CT. In this role, you will be a part of our multidisciplinary commissioning team, performing pre-energization and the energized checkout of all plant equipment. The Commissioning Turnover Coordinator is a vital part of this team and will be responsible for ensuring that all the system turnover processes are conducted in a diligent and organized manner. The Commissioning Turnover Coordinator will primarily work with their assigned projectโ€™s commissioning team and will report directly to the Project Commissioning Manager.

We are looking for an individual with prior experience working on simple-cycle, combined-cycle, or other large-scale power projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to ethics & integrity, excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently or in a group to meet deadlines, an unwavering commitment to quality & safety, and a rigorous work ethic.


Primary Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leads the turnover process, under the guidance of the Project Commissioning Manager (PCM).
  • Ensures that the requirements of QIP-19 and CQP-17 are adhered to.
  • Identifies system boundaries through scoped drawing and markups of selected engineering drawings.
  • Works with the Engineer of Record (EOR) and Gemmaโ€™s field engineers to affirm that key equipment listings include system designations to ensure that construction teams sufficiently understand system assignments for all equipment.
  • Screens construction turnover documentation and works with their construction counterparts to ensure sufficient documentation is provided. This includes documentation needed for due diligence required prior to system energization.
  • Participates in meetings as required, and leads turnover-related meetings under the direction of the PCM. Actively follows the progress of construction & commissioning to ensure awareness of punchlist items.
  • Maintains & distributes the project punchlist, including walkdown organization, scribing during walkdowns, reporting, and discipline updates.
  • Maintains effective communication with commissioning leads, commissioning craft support, manufacturer technical field advisors, subcontractors, and the Ownerโ€™s operators.
  • Utilizes insight and experience by providing recommendations on strategy, best practices on commissioning, and operational issues.
  • Conducts commissioning activities in accordance with project safety policies, manufacturer guidelines, engineering drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and company guidelines.
  • Collects & catalogs supplier TFA reports. Identifies open items on reports and seeks documentation of closure.
  • Ensures that all required commissioning turnover documents are uploaded to the electronic document archive.
  • Supports the development of and is knowledgeable in detailed equipment/system commissioning plans.
  • Develops & maintains all equipment inspection and maintenance logs/reports.
  • Participates in the On-the-Job Training (OJT) of client personnel.
  • Participates in the Gemma process improvement program or lessons learned.
  • Produces daily activity reports as required.
  • Oversees craft labor in the execution of commissioning support activities.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commissioning experience with power plants, renewable energy projects, and/or large-scale industrial facilities.
  • 4-year degree in engineering or another construction-related field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read & understand a project schedule.
  • Ability to read & understand P&IDs and electrical onelines.
  • Previous experience in leading system walkdowns and punchlisting is desired.
  • Previous experience in overseeing system turnover is preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Highly motivated with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.
  • Relentless dedication to both quality & safety.
  • Formidable problem-solving & analytical skills.
  • Able to work productively both independently and when collaborating with others.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and handling competing priorities when needed.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Extensive travel, including time at project sites and manufacturer shops.
  • Must be comfortable with frequently standing or moving around a heavy construction environment.
  • Exposure to loud noise, rugged or uneven environments, and varying weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
