Job Summary
SMSI, LLC is seeking multiple mid and senior level Field Engineers to support capital construction projects for a variety of clients and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This position will require working fulltime onsite in Los Alamos, New Mexico at LANL and may require working nights and / or weekends.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate deliverables for construction closeout and turnover package development including review and closure of all subcontractor submittals, construction and verification test data, and subcontractor as-built documentation.
  • Prepare engineering closeout documentation as part of client engineering verification of the construction turnover documentation.
  • Provide Field Engineering expertise for development and management of project requirements, and verification / tracking of implementation of requirements through the project life cycle.
Required Skills/ Abilities
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of capital construction projects (i.e., understand role of contractor, designer, owner).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
  • Capability to organize project documentation using various means (e.g., spreadsheets, databases).
  • Capability with MS Office Suite and ability/willingness to learn new software packages.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with clients, contractors, and consultant on a day-to-day basis.
  • Self-starter with ability to work with limited oversight.
  • Candidates must be able to work onsite at LANL.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
  • The candidate must have an active Real ID diver's license for badging and onboarding.
Desired Skills
Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
  • Structural engineering experience.
  • Electrical engineering experience.
  • Mechanical engineering experience.
  • Process (Mechanical or Chemical) experience.
  • Equipment engineering.
  • Piping and instrumentation.
  • Previous experience working at LANL and/or nuclear facilities is preferred.
  • An active or recently inactive DOE Q or DOD Top Secret clearance is a plus.
Education
  • Candidates should meet one of the following: bachelor's degree plus 8 years of experience OR associate’s degree with 10 years of experience, OR high school diploma plus 12 years of experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform walk downs onsite.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
