Note: This is an onsite position based out of our offices in The Woodlands, TX. The selected candidate would be expected to relocate for this opportunity. Relocation assistance is not available for this posting. 

Job Summary/Purpose

The Director, Power Development – Solar & Energy Storage is responsible for the strategic leadership, oversight, and successful delivery of Entergy’s utility‑scale solar and energy storage development pipeline. This role provides vision and direction for front‑end project development, ensuring projects are safely executed, cost‑competitive, aligned with sustainability goals, and positioned for long‑term operational success.

The Director leads a cross‑functional organization of project development professionals and serves as a key liaison across internal and external stakeholders including engineering, project management, regulatory, commercial, construction management, and external partners. This role also ensures adherence to Entergy’s Stage Gate Process (SGP), development best practices, and continuous improvement across the renewable project portfolio.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Oversight

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership over Entergy’s growing solar and storage development portfolio, ensuring projects advance with cost, schedule, scope, and quality certainty.
  • Develop long‑term renewable generation strategies and organizational capabilities aligned with Entergy’s carbon‑reduction and sustainability goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement, lessons‑learned transfer, and best‑practice adoption across all renewable development activities.

Project Development & Execution

  • Oversee all front‑end development phases for utility‑scale solar and energy storage projects, ensuring alignment with Entergy’s SGP and internal approval processes.
  • Serve as executive sponsor for development initiatives, providing guidance on business cases, risk management, commercial structures, and technical feasibility.
  • Ensure resiliency principles, cost optimization, and project safety expectations are embedded in all development activities.

Commercial Strategy & Contracting

  • Serve as the senior commercial lead for solar and storage development efforts with deep understanding of contracting, negotiations, risk allocation, and supplier strategy.
  • Oversee and support negotiations for major development‑stage commercial agreements (e.g., land agreements, studies, major equipment, EPC development scopes, interconnection‑related work).
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with developers, contractors, technology suppliers, and other market participants.

Cross‑Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Provide strong leadership across engineering, project management, construction, and project controls teams; develop centers of excellence in each discipline.
  • Coordinate with regulatory affairs to support certification filings and ensure project viability in regulated utility environments.
  • Lead a geographically dispersed team, ensuring adequate resourcing, workforce planning, and performance management.
  • Collaborate effectively across a matrixed organization including Power Development, Capital Projects, Project/Portfolio Development, Reliability & Resiliency, Chief Engineer, and Operations.

Team Development & Culture

  • Foster a culture centered on safety, integrity, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor and develop team members, ensuring Individual Development Plans (IDPs) are established and progressing.
  • Support enterprise‑wide Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (DIB) initiatives within the renewable development organization.

Reporting & Governance

  • Ensure timely and accurate project updates, portfolio reporting, executive briefings, and SGP documentation.
  • Identify and escalate project risks promptly; lead portfolio risk reviews and mitigation planning.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or similar technical field.
  • MBA preferred.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the utility industry with experience in major capital project development, planning, execution, and control.
    • (15) years of experince desired.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of supervisory or leadership experience.  
  • Preferred experience in utility‑scale solar and/or energy storage project origination and development.
  • Deep knowledge of the development lifecycle including land, resource assessment, permitting, interconnection, commercial structuring, and early‑stage engineering desired.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated success building and leading high‑performing development teams.
  • Expert understanding of project management fundamentals, stage‑gate processes, and risk/contingency management.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience negotiating renewable contracts and managing external partners.
  • Skilled in influencing across a matrixed organization and collaborating with engineering, construction, regulatory, and operations stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment for renewables and requirements for project certification.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to brief senior leadership and external parties effectively.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required of the position

  • Desired: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
