Job description

Energy Support Services, a New Energy Equity company, keeps solar and energy storage systems safe, reliable, and producing clean power. As our Solar O&M Technician Level 3, you’ll be the technical expert in the field, leading complex inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs, and mentoring the next generation of technicians. You’ll own your sites, shape how the work gets done, and follow a clear, defined development pathway with advancement to Technician Level 4.


We are pleased to offer a $3,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance for qualified candidates selected for this role.


Maine Master Electricians: no prior solar experience required — we’ll train you.


Pay: $95,000 -$110,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.


WHAT WE OFFER

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Safety

  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Review and ensure correct PPE is available and being used properly.
  • Create PLOTO and LOTO Switch plans for approval.
  • Act as work leader for Pre-Job Briefs, Job Safety Analysis, Personal LOTO, and switch plan LOTO.


Inspections & Preventative Maintenance

  • Lead comprehensive inspections of solar power plants.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs.
  • Supervise and train junior technicians on inspection and maintenance procedures.


Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex system issues, including grid integration and communication problems.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to diagnose and address system performance issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans.


Documentation

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for management.
  • Skilled in Work Order documentation; provide oversight and direction in documentation to junior technicians.


Learning & Knowledge

  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
  • Contribute to the development of training materials and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • License Requirement: Master Electrician License Required.
    • Special Provision: Candidates holding an active Maine Master Electrician License will be fully considered without prior solar experience.
  • Experience: 2–4 years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field, in addition to the licensed electrical experience reflected by your Master Electrician License.
  • Education: Associate's degree in electrical engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA 30-hour and NFPA 70e certifications.
    • FAA Part 107 Certification (or proficiency operating Drones for Aerial Thermographic purposes).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, solar energy technologies, and grid-tied systems.
    • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools such as I/V Curve Tracers, Meggers, and Isolation testers.
    • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Leadership & Communication:
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior technicians in the field.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Requirements: Valid driver's license and clean driving record.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Be able to drive a vehicle confidently and with a high degree of safety.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time and walk distances up to three miles a day.
  • Be able to navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while maintaining 3 points of contact.
  • Have the visual acuity for depth perception, no field of vision issues, and the ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Be comfortable working in a variety of climate conditions which may include, but are not limited to, extreme heat (temperatures above 100°F) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32°F) for periods of more than one hour.
  • Be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.





This role involves work on electrical systems associated with solar photovoltaic (PV) equipment. In accordance with Maine state law, individuals performing electrical work must hold a valid electrician license issued by the Maine Electricians’ Examining Board.


Electrical work must be performed within the scope of the individual’s license classification or under the supervision of a licensed electrician, as required.


All work must comply with applicable state codes, permitting requirements, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

The expected annual compensation range for this position is $95,000 - $110,000, encompassing base pay and potential incentive target opportunity. This range is a good faith estimate based on the position's requirements. Specific compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary depending on factors such as relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, this position may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, including Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance and Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
