MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Virtualization Engineer supporting CIS, you will design, build, and enhance enterprise virtualization platforms that deliver secure, resilient, and highly available compute capabilities across diverse networks and environments. You will engineer optimized virtual and physical server solutions, develop configuration baselines, and advance automation and modernization initiatives that directly strengthen system reliability, security posture, and mission critical service delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineer, integrate, and optimize virtualized compute platforms including hypervisors, clustered hosts, virtual appliances, and supporting infrastructure across Windows and Linux systems
  • Develop and maintain standardized operating system baselines, server build templates, firmware versions, and configuration documentation for physical and virtual environments
  • Design high availability architectures, resource efficient compute clusters, and hyperconverged solutions that increase performance, scalability, and resilience
  • Conduct analysis, testing, and validation of new virtualization technologies, platform upgrades, and major system enhancements prior to production deployment
  • Automate provisioning, patching, configuration, and lifecycle tasks to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk
  • Provide Tier 3 engineering support for complex virtualization issues including cluster performance, hypervisor faults, networking dependencies, and storage integration challenges
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, network, storage, and operations teams to ensure engineered solutions align with security frameworks, accreditation requirements, and enterprise compliance standards
  • Maintain engineering documentation including architecture diagrams, SOPs, testing results, configuration guides, and implementation packages to support lifecycle management and knowledge transfer

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field, or 12+ years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree
  • CERTIFICATION: Meet DoD 8140 Information Assurance Workforce certification requirements (e.g. Security+ CE, etc.)
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIRED CERTIFICATION: VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization
  • CLEARANCE: Active TS/SCI clearance with a favorable polygraph
  • Hands-on experience designing, engineering, and maintaining virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere/vCenter, Hyper-V, or comparable enterprise solutions
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux server engineering, OS baseline creation, secure configuration, and performance tuning
  • Experience conducting patch management, system hardening, vulnerability mitigation, and compliance validation for virtualized compute environments
  • US citizenship required
