Residential Drywall Installation
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Paid by square footage completed. Rates are based on experience, skill level, quality of work, and project scope.
Location: Wichita | KS
Position Summary
The Residential Drywall Journeyman is responsible for performing skilled drywall and insulation work on residential construction, remodel, and service projects. This role requires the ability to work independently or as part of a crew, read basic plans and work orders, install insulation systems, hang drywall, perform repairs, and complete work safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards.
The ideal candidate has proven residential experience, takes pride in craftsmanship, understands jobsite expectations, and can help support apprentices or less-experienced team members in the field.
Key Responsibilities
  • Measure, cut, fit, and install drywall panels on walls, ceilings, soffits, and other residential assemblies.
  • Perform drywall patching, repairs, replacement, and preparation for finishing.
  • Identify proper materials, tools, fasteners, and installation methods for each scope of work.
  • Read and interpret basic plans, layouts, work orders, and project instructions.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas throughout the project.
  • Inspect work for quality, accuracy, and completeness before moving to the next phase.
  • Communicate job progress, material needs, issues, and safety concerns to the Foreman or Project Manager.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, staging, and protecting materials on residential jobsites.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment safely.
  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and jobsite rules.
  • Support and mentor apprentices or helpers as needed.
  • Represent the company professionally when working around homeowners, builders, contractors, and other trades.
Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a drywall and/or insulation installer in residential construction.
  • Ability to hang drywall, perform repairs, and install insulation with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of common residential construction practices, materials, and tools.
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, and install materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work full-time hours.
  • Ability to work well with a team and maintain a professional attitude.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with both new construction and remodel/service work.
  • Experience with batt insulation, blown-in insulation, air sealing, drywall hanging, and patch repair.
  • Ability to perform basic drywall finishing is a plus.
  • OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience leading or training helpers/apprentices.
