Job description

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced Contract Formation Specialist to support large-scale major capital projects within the oilsands sector. This role is ideal for a professional who brings both strong commercial contracting expertise and a solid foundation in construction or engineering, allowing them to bridge the gap between contract strategy and real-world project execution.

In this position, you will play a key role in shaping and executing contracting strategies, ensuring alignment between commercial terms and field realities. This is a fast-paced environment where independent thinking, technical understanding, and negotiation expertise are essential.

What’s in It for You

  • Opportunity to work on major oilsands capital projects with high visibility
  • Competitive contract rate ($60–$70/hour)
  • Exposure to complex, large-scale contract negotiations
  • Work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team (engineering, construction, legal, operations)
  • Ability to directly influence contract strategy and project outcomes
  • Dynamic environment with challenging and impactful work
  • Autonomy to operate at a senior level with minimal oversight
  • Opportunity to leverage both technical and commercial expertise in a meaningful way

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in contract formation within large construction or capital projects
  • Strong background in engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical) or construction/project execution
  • Hands-on understanding of field operations and construction methodologies
  • Proven experience in complex contract negotiations and bid evaluations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the full contract lifecycle (RFx to award)
  • Experience working within Canadian projects, including knowledge of labor and regulatory considerations
  • Strong ability to work independently in a senior, self-directed capacity
  • Familiarity with systems such as SAP, Ariba, Ivalua, or similar platforms

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end contract formation activities, including RFx, bid evaluation, negotiation, and award
  • Develop and execute tender strategies aligned with project objectives
  • Conduct thorough technical and commercial bid evaluations
  • Negotiate large-scale construction contracts with vendors and contractors
  • Ensure alignment between contract terms and real-world construction execution
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and legal teams
  • Identify and mitigate construction-related risks (scope gaps, productivity assumptions, interface risks)
  • Provide insights to ensure contracts reflect field realities such as labor, shift cycles, and site constraints
