Space Planning Specialist - Site Growth, Occupancy & IWMS Support
Location: Kenosha County, WI
Work Environment: Active GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing campus supporting office, laboratory, warehouse, manufacturing, and aseptic operations
Contract Duration: 6-12 months, with potential extension based on site growth needs
Schedule: On-site, standard business hours with occasional off-shift support as required for field verification, moves, project coordination, or operational needs.
Position Overview
Automated Systems, Inc. is seeking a Space Planning Specialist to support our client's rapidly growing Kenosha County site. The site is expanding at a fast pace, with hundreds of new employees and contractors being added across operations, engineering, quality, laboratory, manufacturing, facilities, and project teams.
This role will help the site plan, assign, track, and optimize the use of office space, laboratory space, manufacturing support space, collaboration areas, contractor work areas, parking, and access routes. The successful candidate will work closely with Facilities, Operations, Engineering, Quality, HR, IT, Security, EHS, and project stakeholders to ensure people are placed in the right locations to support safe, efficient, and compliant site operations.
A key part of the role will be supporting the implementation and use of the Spaceti Integrated Workplace Management System, but the broader objective is to help the site make sound space-planning decisions during a period of rapid growth. This includes balancing headcount growth, contractor onboarding, parking demand, site access, manufacturing flow, safety, lab utilization, and proximity to work areas.
Key Responsibilities
Site Growth & Occupancy Planning
  • Support space planning for a rapidlyexpanding pharmaceutical manufacturing site with significant growth inemployee and contractor headcount using Spaceti Integrated WorkplaceManagement System.
  • Develop and maintain accurate occupancyplans for office, laboratory, manufacturing support, warehouse, andshared-use spaces.
  • Partner with site leadership, Facilities,HR, Operations, Engineering, Quality, IT, Security, and EHS to understandcurrent and forecasted staffing needs.
  • Help determine where new employees,contractors, project teams, and functional groups should be located basedon role, work area, access needs, shift patterns, and operationalpriorities.
  • Identify space constraints, overcrowdingrisks, inefficient layouts, and near-term capacity issues.
  • Develop practical recommendations forspace allocation, moves, seating plans, lab support areas, contractorareas, and temporary workspace solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate,reassign, repurpose, or improve underutilized spaces.
  • Assess space needs related tomanufacturing flow, material movement, gowning routes, personnel access,maintenance access, and operational adjacency.
  • Assess parking demand created by rapidheadcount growth, contractor utilization, shift changes, andvisitor/vendor activity.
  • Evaluate pedestrian routes, site accesspoints, contractor access, badge access needs, and movement betweenparking, offices, labs, and manufacturing areas.
  • Identify ergonomic, congestion, andaccess issues related to current or planned occupancy.
  • Track open space issues, action items,decisions, constraints, and implementation status.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in FacilitiesManagement, Architecture, Engineering, Business, Interior Design,Construction Management, Planning, or a related field; equivalentexperience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in spaceplanning, workplace strategy, facilities management, occupancy planning,campus planning, lab planning, manufacturing support planning, orIWMS/CAFM administration.
  • Experience supporting space planning in acomplex site environment with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to interpret floor plans,occupancy plans, department layouts, seating charts, and facilitydrawings.
