Job description


I. Position Title: Grounds Maintenance Seasonal Worker II. Summary of Overall Purpose of Position: Under supervision of the Recreation Director and Grounds Lead Worker, provides routine skilled and semi-skilled work in a variety of repair and maintenance assignments using common tools and operates equipment in connection with the skilled and semi-skilled tasks. Performs day to day activities for the general maintenance of city grounds and parks. III. Duties
  • Perform general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, sweeping and raking.
  • Assists in keeping park facilities, grounds, buildings, and trails neat, clean and safe.
  • Assist with diseased and hazardous removal, tree trimming and cutting and clearing of brush and weeds.
  • Mow, weed, trim, rake, mulch, seed, and water park and city grounds. Maintain landscape areas; pull weeds, plant landscapes, and water landscape beds and trees.
  • Water, prune, weed, renovate and fertilize grass and plants.
  • Perform general maintenance/repairs/cleaning of pavilions, picnic tables, benches and other city facilities.
  • Assist with general maintenance of city playground equipment, i.e. clean, rake mulch, and trash clean-up.
  • Perform minor and preventive maintenance and repair work on equipment and facilities; assist with related maintenance work including painting.
  • Maintain routine records of work performed, including labor, equipment usage, preventive maintenance and needed repairs
  • Assist in the installation, repair, replacement and service to irrigation systems; inspect functioning of sprinklers and report malfunctioning sprinkler systems to appropriate personnel; assist in winterizing irrigation systems as directed.
  • Assist in setting up community services and special events.
  1. Marginal Duties Perform other duties as assigned.
IV. Qualifications

Experience: One year experience in the care and maintenance of parks and athletic fields preferred, but not required.

Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Special Requirements: None

Knowledge of: Tools and equipment used in parks and grounds maintenance; safe work procedures in the operation of various tools and equipment; basic ground maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking and weeding; types and applications of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.

Ability to: Operate hand and power tools; operate mowers; and perform manual labor in all weather conditions; work harmoniously and cooperatively with other employees and the public; perform manual labor for extended periods of time; and follow prescribed safety precautions. Skill in: Skill in the use of hand and mechanical tools and equipment and preparing softball and baseball fields. Communication Skills: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Tool, Machine, Equipment Operation: Various power and hand tools.

Working Conditions Physical Demands: While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk to hear. Must have the ability to lift, bend, walk and stand for extended periods of time. Required to push, pull or lift medium to heavy objects. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Regular exposure to heat, humidity, cold, wind and/or rain is expected. Employee is exposed to dampness, fumes, odors, dust, dirt, chemicals, machinery with moving parts and loud noises.
