Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN with a strong Neuro/ENT background for a 13-week evening shift contract at a Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI.

Details
  • Work setting is a 636-bed Level III Trauma Center with Magnet Designation, Primary Stroke Center, and Level III NICU in Milwaukee, WI
  • Main OR with 21 OR beds serving a diverse surgical population including Neuro/ENT, Orthopedic, General, and Robotic cases
  • Neuro/ENT case focus includes spine surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, discectomies), cranial surgeries (tumors, VP shunts, subdurals), and ENT procedures (neck dissections with flaps, sinus surgery, tympanoplasty)
  • Orthopedic cases include fractures, anterior hips, total joints, ortho spine, and hand/podiatry
  • General surgical cases include breast/plastics, vascular, laparoscopic, oncology, GU, GYN, and robotic (Xi) cases — agency staff are not trained on robotics unless they have a strong background
  • Navigation systems in use include Medtronic (cranial and spine), Medtronic Stealth (ENT), Stryker, and Synaptive Navigation (cranial)
  • Equipment includes Hanna Table, Alaris, and Pyxis
  • Charting via Epic; Epic experience preferred
  • Patient ratio is 1:1
  • Shift is 8-hour evenings, 11:00–19:30
  • On-call responsibilities required with a 30-minute response time; call schedule is based on an 8-week rotation and subject to change based on staffing needs
  • Call slots include B Slot (19:30–22:30, 5–10 slots) and C Slot (22:00–07:00, 5–6 slots)
  • Weekend call rotation of 1–2 weekends per 8-week schedule (Friday–Monday, 06:00–18:00 or 18:00–06:00); subject to change
  • Cross-training required to General Main OR specialty and the Urology center; no floating to other hospital sites
  • No weekend rotation for regularly scheduled shifts
Requirements
  • Active WI or Compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of OR experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Strong Neuro/ENT scrub and circulator experience required; RN circulator experience with scrubbing highly recommended
  • Orthopedic and general OR experience a plus
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • 1 professional reference dated within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's middle name or initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Support structure includes Charge Nurses, Leads, and Supervisors (AM, PM, and Weekend) plus a Unit Manager
  • Orientation is approximately 1–1.5 weeks, subject to change based on unit needs
  • Surgical scrubs are provided by the facility; personal scrub caps must be covered by a surgical bouffant
  • Free parking available with a shuttle service to and from the parking structure; Starbucks and cafeteria on campus; no call rooms available
  • First-time travelers are not recommended for this position and would require further approval from the hiring supervisor
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius restrictions apply
