Job description

Our client, Kenstan Lock Company, is a leading designer and manufacturer of highly engineered locking systems. We are seeking an experienced Contract Machinist for a three-month assignment to support prototype and low-volume production machining. This role requires a highly skilled professional capable of independently producing complex, tight-tolerance components on a Haas Mini Mill 2, from programming through final inspection.

The ideal candidate is a self-sufficient machinist with extensive prototype experience, exceptional attention to detail, and a strong commitment to quality.

Please note that this role is required to be on-site at the company headquarters in Plainview, NY.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, and operate a Haas Mini Mill 2 to manufacture precision prototype and low-volume components.
  • Develop efficient CNC programs using Mastercam and Fusion 360.
  • Machine high-quality, tight-tolerance parts from aluminum, stainless steel, and a variety of engineering plastics.
  • Design and fabricate custom work-holding fixtures to support complex machining operations.
  • Perform manual machining operations on an engine lathe as required.
  • Execute part modifications, reworks, and engineering changes with precision and efficiency.
  • Inspect completed parts to ensure conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Maintain excellent surface finish and dimensional accuracy across all projects.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on Haas CNC equipment and manual engine lathes.
  • Manage projects independently from setup through completion with minimal supervision.
ย  Job Requirements and Qualification
  • Proven experience operating and programming Haas CNC milling machines, preferably the Haas Mini Mill 2.
  • Advanced proficiency in Mastercam and Fusion 360.
  • Strong background in prototype machining and tight-tolerance manufacturing.
  • Expertise in designing and building custom fixturing and work-holding solutions.
  • Proficiency in manual lathe operations.
  • Demonstrated experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, and plastics.
  • Ability to consistently achieve superior cosmetic and surface finish requirements.
  • Strong understanding of machine maintenance, tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining best practices.
  • Excellent blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and precision measurement skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
