Job description

Overview

MG2, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design is currently looking for a Designer (Level 2) to join our team in our New York, NY office!

You will be working in our Consumer Experiences (CX) Market, where you will have the opportunity to design and deliver on various types of fast-moving Retail, Food & Beverage and Luxury projects that anticipate the needs and lifestyle shifts of evolving users.

Designers at this level assist with the generation of original concept designs and are key contributors to all phases of the design process. Their primary focus is generating comprehensive design solutions and subsequent documentation. Emphasis is on programming, space planning, material selections, casework and fixture design, and FF&E specifications. Staff at this level may work on independently managed design projects or as part of a larger architectural team. They can clearly communicate original ideas both graphically and verbally and are expected to contribute to the production of construction documents and various other design deliverables as necessary to ensure continuity throughout the design, documentation, and construction process. Designers on this track have expertise in retail or experiential design and/or possess other specialized design skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the generation of original design concepts and completion of design deliverables including preliminary design documentation, conceptual plans and elevations, 3D renderings, and exhibits. Primary focus is on ensuring accurate and comprehensive design documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with architectural and design staff on experiential concept designs and projects of various types and scale. This includes a detailed understanding of how jurisdictional requirements, client standards, constructability, and programmatic guidelines impact and inform concept designs.
  • Collaborate directly with project teams to integrate conceptual design work into contract documents. including assisting with construction document production as needed.
  • Conduct design research from a wide variety of benchmarking sources for ideation and provide detailed design documentation to project teams.
  • Complete timely and accurate surveys of existing conditions in spaces identified as potential sites for tenant improvements.
  • Research project materiality and FF&E specifications with a detailed understanding of durability and aesthetic qualities, as well as sustainable design considerations.
  • Coordinate project deliverable with external consultants project partners.
  • Assist with data collection, project programming and preliminary space planning.
  • Actively contribute to QA/QC reviews of design deliverables and design related construction documents to ensure design intent is maintained throughout all project phases.
  • Assist with generating design focused project specifications as needed. Perform relevant research of products and materials as necessary, and coordinate with Project
  • Designers as required.
  • Contribute to the execution of Construction Administration procedures including review of design related RFIs and project submittals.
  • Contribute to the production of design deliverables used in RFP/RFQ responses and marketing proposals.
  • Actively participate in efforts to build and support a design culture at MG2, including adherence to design rigor standards and processes.
  • Produce accurate and timely work in accordance with the project schedules and workplans. Work should demonstrate understanding of design intent and comprehension of project budget.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture, design, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in a professional architectural or design firm.
  • Certification as a licensed professional preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in design production and 3D visualization.
  • Understanding of the relationship between design and constructability.
  • Proficient with Revit, Sketch-Up, Auto-CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Affinity, VRay and Enscape.
  • Experience selecting finish materials, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Experience with sustainable material sourcing, documentation of embodied carbon preferred.
  • Basic understanding of merchandising needs in a store environment.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $70,000 to $85,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
