What is a contract legal assistant?

A Contract Legal Assistant is a professional who provides legal support services to attorneys and law firms on a contractual or temporary basis. Their responsibilities may include preparing legal documents, conducting research, organizing case files, and communicating with clients or courts. Unlike full-time legal assistants, contract legal assistants are usually hired for specific projects or periods, offering flexibility to both the assistant and the employer. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of legal procedures. Many contract legal assistants work through staffing agencies or as independent contractors.

A Career that Empowers You to Build Your Future

Lennar is investing in the future of its Legal organization, and the Senior Manager, Legal Technology will play an important role in advancing the transformation of the function.

This is an opportunity for a technology-forward leader who can help build and scale a modern, AI-enabled, streamlined, and data-driven Legal organization. Reporting to and partnering closely with the Director of Legal Technology, the Senior Manager will help translate the Legal Technology strategy into execution by leading technology implementations, process improvements, automation initiatives, and cross-functional transformation efforts.

The ideal candidate brings a combination of legal technology expertise, project and program leadership, business process improvement, systems thinking, and a passion for using technology and AI to simplify complex work. This leader will partner with Legal stakeholders, Technology teams, and business partners to identify opportunities, implement solutions, improve workflows, and drive adoption of the systems and capabilities needed to support a modern legal function at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Support execution of the operational roadmap for Legal Technology platforms (CLM, Workflows, Legal Tracker, DocuSign), driving day-to-day business requirements and process documentation.
  • Contributes and helps drive business and legal operating transformation
  • Gather and document business requirements from legal and business stakeholders; translate them into user stories, workflow diagrams, and acceptance criteria for the technical/IT team.
  • Coordinate and execute user acceptance testing (UAT) for system implementations and enhancements, tracking defects and confirming business readiness for go‑live.
  • Design and maintain end‑user training materials, job aids, and onboarding content for legal system users; deliver training sessions and office hours.
  • Support change management activities for system rollouts — communications, stakeholder readiness, adoption tracking, and feedback loops.
  • Monitor system usage and adoption metrics; identify friction points and recommend process or workflow improvements to the Director.
  • Triage and manage support requests and business‑side escalations, coordinating with the technical team on root‑cause resolution.
  • Maintain process documentation, SOPs, and workflow maps for legal systems, keeping them current as processes evolve.
  • Support governance and audit‑readiness activities, including access/entitlement reviews and compliance‑related workflow checks (e.g., signature authority, entity screening).
  • Assist in evaluating AI‑assisted workflow outputs (e.g., contract review, document extraction) against defined quality thresholds, escalating issues to the Director.
  • Coordinate with vendor and implementation partner teams on business‑side deliverables, timelines, and issue resolution.
  • Prepare status updates, adoption dashboards, and reporting inputs for Director and stakeholder review.
  • Partner with Compliance, IT, and other Legal Operations team members to align on dependencies and shared priorities for system changes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Operations, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in legal operations, business analysis, or system implementation (business/functional side) within corporate legal, compliance, or enterprise environments.
  • Experience with business requirements gathering, process mapping, and UAT for enterprise system implementations.
  • Exposure to legal technology platforms (CLM, matter management/eBilling, or comparable) as a business user or requirements contributor.
  • Strong communication skills; experience creating end‑user documentation and delivering training to non‑technical audiences.
  • Comfortable working with data and reporting outputs (e.g., dashboards, adoption metrics) without requiring hands‑on SQL or scripting.
  • Familiarity with eSignature platforms (DocuSign preferred) from a business process standpoint.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholder groups simultaneously.
  • Collaborative team player comfortable working alongside technical teams and vendor/consulting partners.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change; adaptable in evolving environments.
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery models from a business stakeholder role (backlog input, UAT, sprint participation) is a plus.
