What is a contract learning and development professional?

Contract Learning and Development professionals are specialists who work on a temporary or project basis to design, deliver, and evaluate training programs within organizations. They help employees improve skills, adapt to new technologies, or meet compliance requirements. These professionals may develop e-learning courses, conduct workshops, or create instructional materials tailored to an organization's needs. Working on a contract basis allows companies to access specialized expertise without committing to full-time employment. Contract Learning and Development roles are common in industries undergoing change, implementing new systems, or facing skill gaps.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract learning and development professional?

To excel as a Contract Learning and Development Specialist, you need expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and experience with training delivery, often supported by a degree in education, HR, or a related field. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning authoring tools like Articulate or Captivate, and relevant certifications such as CPLP or ATD are highly valued. Strong communication, project management, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for collaborating with clients and adjusting to diverse organizational needs. These competencies ensure effective training solutions that drive employee performance and meet business objectives in dynamic environments.

Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. At ACTIVE Network, a Global Payments company, we challenge the world to get moving. As a Sales Development Representative, you play a vital role in our mission by connecting more people to the activities they love.

  • Shape the future of your territory by cultivating a robust pipeline, balancing self-generated opportunities with inbound leads to consistently exceed revenue targets.

  • Build trust with school administrators and program directors, acting as a strategic advisor who uncovers pain points and delivers tailored solutions.

  • Influence organizational success by partnering with Marketing, Sales Engineering, and Customer Success to refine our go-to-market strategies and accelerate deal cycles.

  • Navigate complex buying environments, engaging multiple stakeholders-from finance to IT-to ensure your solutions align with their operational goals.

  • Own the end-to-end negotiation process, ensuring every contract creates long-term value for both the client and Global Payments.

What you bring

  • Five or more years of B2B sales experience, specifically within SaaS or a consultative environment, with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.

  • Proven ability to manage full sales cycles, demonstrating expertise in navigating multi-stakeholder decision processes.

  • A strong, proactive approach to business development, with the ability to turn cold prospects into long-term partners.

  • Excellent discovery and communication skills, allowing you to quantify value and align technical solutions with client needs.

  • A high degree of accountability and the desire to work in an environment where your impact is clear, measured, and rewarded.

  • Experience in education or youth-serving markets, which helps you understand the unique challenges our clients face.
